Many sports gambling enthusiasts find themselves reluctant to test their hand at betting odds for cycling events. They either don't know much about individual racers, or they're intimidated by wagering on competitions with different stages. But there's no need to be worried. We're here to help.

In fact, there's no better way to start dipping your toes into cycling than by working the betting odds on the 2022 Milan-San RemoUnlike many other races, this one spans just a single day, making it a great investment for both veterans and those new to placing cycling bets alike.

The 2022 Milan-San Remo is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 19. It will, as always, span a total of 182 miles between Milan, Italy, and Sanremo, Italy. Can Wout Van Aert Win Milan-San Remo Again?

Back in 2020, Wout Van Aert (+350) took home first-place honors in the Milan-San Remo when he put together one of the smoothest, most dominant end-to-end rides the single-day race has ever had seen. He then entered as the odds-on favorite in 2021, but ultimately checked in at a third place.

At this point, you should expect him to be laying higher-end odds but not necessarily to lead the pack. And yet, linemakers have given Wout Van Aert the slightest of edges over the reigning winner. That will no doubt take some by surprise. But it shouldn't.

Wout Van Aert still pieced together a relatively absurd 2021 season overall. He finished second in the UCI Tour World rankings, trailing only Tadej Pogocar (+2500). And given that he's now pieced together two consecutive top-three finishers following this course, it only makes sense that he curry the most favor entering 2022 running.

Should Caleb Ewan be Actually the Favorite to Win the 2022 Milan-San Remo?

We're calling it now: Caleb Ewan (+400) deserves more respect.

This seems like a wild thing to say about someone laying top-two odds for the Milan-San Remo. But our qualms are more about his overall ranking among pro cycles. He wrapped last year outside the top 70 and is currently still outside the top 65. That doesn't make too much sense for someone who is a five-time stage winner at the freaking Tour de France, and who is also a nine-time stage winner at the Santos Tour Down Under.

In this race specifically, of course, Ewan is getting plenty of credit. He finished in second last year after riding a near-perfect heat. Knowing how well the 27-year-old has fared on street courses previously, he should absolutely be in the mix to win the 2022 Milan-San Remo.

Who's the Best Dark Horse Bet to Win 2022 Milan-San Remo?

Um, Jasper Stuyven (+4000) anyone?

While we know he has been inconsistent in the past, we're talking about the winner of the 2021 Milan-San Remo. Not only that, but he quietly finished the 2021 season on a tear, ending as the 17th-ranked rider on tour.

Do yourself a favor and take Stuyven seriously. He's earned the benefit of the doubt.

Predicting the 2022 Milan-San Remo Winner

Talk about a tough decision.

Although we firmly believe Jasper Stuyven is getting undervalued by the oddsmakers, we cannot bring ourselves to go against historical trends. Since the inception of the Milan-San Remo in 2004, nobody has ever won two in a row.

In the end, Caleb Ewan intrigues us most.

Linemakers are supremely underrating how well he handles himself when bringing up the rear. Granted, one-day races aren't necessarily his thing. Ewan is most adept at closing gaps across multiple stages. But on a street course that allows him to really open it up on the pedals across terrain on which he excels, we're convinced he parlays last year's second-place finish into an all-out victory.
