If Teofimo Lopez wins this, there is a real prospect that he could secure a big fight against Davis or Garcia. So the Claggett fight is one that Lopez needs to take seriously and ensure he makes no silly mistakes in.
But let's not forget that Lopez is the champion. He is defending both his belts together for the second time. He is a class above Steve Claggett, who despite having 47 fights on his resume, hasnāt fought the same caliber of fighter that Lopez has.
In short, this is a fight that Lopez should be winning in a convincing style.

Teofimo Lopez Career Breakdown
Teofimo Lopez has a career record of 20-1. The one defeat on his resume came at the hands of George Kambosos Jr when the Australian beat Lopez by a split decision for his then WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.

Before the defeat, Lopez was 16-0 and coming off the back of an impressive unanimous decision win over Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2020.
At the point of the Lomachenko victory, Lopez was primed to be the dominant fighter in the division. The defeat was a huge setback for the American fighter.
Since the Kambosos Jr loss, Lopez has bounced back with four wins in a row. The winning streak includes his unanimous decision win over Josh Taylor in June 2023, a fight which saw him win the WBO belt, which he has since defended successfully against Jamaine Ortiz in February with another unanimous decision win.
The wins over Taylor and Ortiz were both masterful displays with the 26-year-old Lopez dominating both men with his fast hands and superior technical ability.
Out of his 20 career wins, 13 have come by KO and seven by decision.
Steve Claggett Career Breakdown
Steve Claggett is a 34-year-old Canadian with a fight record of 38-7-2. The southpaw has won 26 of his fights by KO.
Claggett could be described as a journeyman. But that would be harsh on a guy who is on a winning streak of nine.
The Canadian is an underrated fighter, who is technically sound and fights well from behind a consistent jab.
He also has a good KO record, but except for a win over Alberto Machado in June 2023, he hasnāt fought anybody at the elite level.
The lack of big-fight exposure could well be a telling factor when he meets Lopez in Florida.
Teofimo Lopez vs. Steve Claggett Betting Picks and Predictions
The fight is taking place in South Florida, where Lopez has a strong connection and will be cheered on by a partisan Latino crowd.
The whole occasion will be something that Steve Claggett has never experienced before, meaning it can go one of two ways for the Canadian underdog.
He either lets the occasion swallow him up or sees it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and gives it his all. If it is the latter, that will make Claggett a dangerous opponent.
But regardless of how Steve Claggett performs, Teofimo Lopez is the superior fighter. Claggett may be underrated technically, but he is still inferior to the fast hands and slick movement of Lopez.
If Lopez isnāt affected by the occasion and takes the fight seriously, then we can see him stopping the Canadian.
Our betting pick is a win for Teofimo Lopez by KO/TKO/DQ.
