Alexander Volkanovski Has Clear Advantage Over Chan Sung Jung
It isn't hard to see why UFC baked in a sixth headlining fight when you dig into the details of the Featherweight title matchup between Alexander Volkanovski and Chan Sung Jung.
Volkanovski has never lost at the UFC level. In fact, it's been nearly a decade since he last lost a fight, period.
Knowing that Chan Sung Jung is also a stand-in replacement for the injured Max Holloway, we can't see this ending in anything other than a swift victory for Volkanovski.
OSB Prediction: Alexander Volkanovski (-800)
Can Aljamain Sterling Defend the Bantamweight Title vs. Petr Yan?
Aljamain Sterling may be the defending Bantamweight champion, but he's gotten here under murky circumstances.
Indeed, he initially poached the belt from Petr Yan himself. Sterling actually handed Yan his first loss in roughly five years. But that victory came on the heels of Yan's own disqualification. He hit him with an illegal knee and was stripped of his belt.
To Sterling's credit, he wasn't a fluke challenger. He needed to win five straight matches to earn that original title fight. Given how well Yan has fought since his disqualification, though, we have a hard time seeing him surrender a second loss to Sterling.
OSB Prediction: Petr Yan (-470)
Khamzat Chimaev Poised to Win vs. Gilbert Burns
Can anyone stop Khamzat Chimaev? To this point, the answer is no. He's 10-0 for his MMA career, including 4-0 at the UFC level.
Gilbert Burns doesn't appear particularly equipped to hand Chimaev his first loss, either. Though the former has fought well enough to earn title shots in the past, he's typically wilted against heightened competition.
Take Burns' loss to Kamaru Usman. He got knocked out in the third round. It would surprise us if something similar happens here.
OSB Prediction: Khamzat Chimaev (-550)
Mackenzie Dern Looks to Recapture Form Against Tecia Torres
Oddsmakers seem to be pricing in Mackenzie Dern's loss to Marina Rodriguez back in October. And we don't think they should.
Teccia Torres is incredibly scrappy. She knows how to slow down the pace and rejigger fights to her advantage. But Dern has overpowered some of the most talented names in her weight class prior to her loss vs Rodriguez. We don't expect her to drop a second straight fight.
OSB Prediction: Mackenzie Dern (-127)
Aleksei Oleinik Gets Back on Track vs. Jared Vanderaa
After two previous cancellations, Aleksei Oleinik vs. Jared Vanderaa is finally happening. And good luck picking between the two.
Both fighters enter this matchup embroiled in struggle. Vanderaa has dropped three of four fights; Oleinik is working on three straight losses.
The difference for us: Oleinik has never lost four straight fights over the course of his career. That, plus his superior accuracy on strike attempts, should get him the W.
OSB Prediction: Aleksei Oleinik (+100)
Kelvin Gastelum Should Hold Off Dricus Du Plessis
Dricus Du Plessis would normally grab our attention as the +130 underdog in a fight against Kelvin Gastelum.
The latter has lost five of his past six matchups, and his power seems to be waning. Plessis, meanwhile, has proven to have admirable stamina that serves him well in showdowns that head to decisions.
But Plessis is taking this slot on short notice, which limits the time he has to scout and train. Beyond that, Gastelum's 1-5 stretch has come against the UFC's toughest middleweight schedule in existence. Facing Plessis offers a nice reprieve.
OSB Prediction: Kelvin Gastelum (-150)
