Paul Rosas Jr. vs. Ricky Turcios Betting Pick
Rosas Jr. is one of the most-known prospects in the entire UFC. The craziest part? He’s all of 19 years old. The kid is a -225 favorite over Turcios. However, we’re more interested in betting the Rosas-Turcios over/under. Here is how the best UFC betting sites are pegging it:
You might remember this fight was originally booked for February. Then the day of the fight, in the locker room, Rosas felt ill and the fight was called off. We finally get it three months later and it’s the main-card opener.
Rosas is a nonstop grappler. In four UFC fights, Rosas owns eight takedowns and 19 minutes of control time. Not bad for a teenager eh? Striking is still an issue, but he’s slowly developing in that area. He gets an excellent test against Turcios, who is a high-volume striker.
Turcios averages 5.08 significant strikes per minute. Kicks, punches, elbows — he throws it all inside the cage. He is 31 years old, 12 years the senior of Rosas. We’d say that experience is where Turcios can separate himself, using his IQ to outlast the prospect. However, Turcios’ takedown defense is a lackluster 45 percent.
We imagine Rosas has his way with Turcios and takes him down. A submission is very likely here. However, it’s also not out of the realm of possibility that Turcios pieces him up on the feet — for as long as he can avoid the takedown. Both those outcomes lend well to the under, which is our bet to make here.
Eduarda Moura vs. Denise Gomes Betting Pick
This might be our most high-conviction fight of the entire night — we’re dead serious. Before we get to our pick, here’s the current Moura-Gomes moneyline:
We’ll be as blunt as possible here: bet big on Moura. What “big” means to you might be different than what it means to us, but none of that matters. All we’re saying is to put more money than usual on Moura to win because this fight feels like a huge mismatch to us.
Moura is an excellent grappler. Get this, she is averaging a whopping 5.34 takedowns per fight. That stat alone tells us Moura is skilled at getting the takedowns, but less so on maintaining control on the ground. On the other side, we have the 24-year-old Gomes — who is six years younger than Moura. The last time we saw Gomes was in a loss to Angela Hill in November. In that loss, Gomes was taken down five times by Hill.
The reason we’re so confident that Moura wins here is because she’s a far more skilled takedown artist and grappler than Hill. If Hill can have that type of success against Gomes, then Moura should fare even better. We’re not kidding, size up for this bet because Moura should win in convincing fashion.
Thiago Moises vs. Ludovit Klein Betting Pick
This is slotted to be the final matchup of the preliminary card — as it should be because it’s a legit toss-up fight. That’s reflected in the Klein-Moises moneyline, as seen below:
Moises is an interesting case study. He’s been in the UFC since 2018 and is still under the age of 30. In that span, Moises has fought the best of the best in the lightweight division — Beneil Dariush, Islam Makhachev, and Benoit Saint-Denis, among others. Moises lost all those bouts, but still, that’s valuable experience that your typical prelim fighter lacks.
Klein has more to prove. He’s 4-0-1 in his last five, but it’s been against subpar completion. Still, he’s looked dominant with his crisp striking. Klein averages just under four significant strikes per minute. It’s the opposite style of Moises, whose background is jiu-jitsu — he’s Brazilian, what do you expect?
The question is this, does Klein have good enough takedown defense? If he doesn’t, expect him to get worn down by Moises’ superb grappling. If not, Klein can pick Moises apart on the feet. To his credit, Klein’s takedown defense is 83 percent, but like we said, it’s never been tested by a legit fighter.
Our inkling is Moises guts this win out. His skills are less of a mystery than Klein’s and those skills have been tested by the UFC’s best at lightweight.
