The best bets are often the most overlooked bets. That’s exactly how we feel about the three wagers we made on the upcoming UFC Fight Night card. Here are three UFC undercard wagers you should not be missing out on:
- What: UFC Vegas 91
- When: Saturday, April 27
- Where: UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada
Tim Means vs. Uros Medic Betting Pick
This fight opens the UFC main card on Saturday. Take one look at the Means-Medic moneyline and you can instantly tell how lopsided it is. Medic is nearing -400 odds to win. No way we’re betting that so we’re on the Means-Medic over/under instead:
If this fight is strictly contested on the feet, then Medic has a good shot at ending this one early. The Serbian fighter is great at striking, and we mean great. Seven of his nine career wins have been by way of KO so the guy can crack too. Medic very much prefers to go head-hunting inside the ring.
Means is a 40-year-old veteran whose first fight in the promotion was in 2012. He’s obviously not as fast or as powerful as the 31-year-old Medic at this stage of his career, but Means can throw it back striking too. Means averages 5.1 strikers per minute, which is not far off of Medic’s 5.64.
But still Means would be smart to avoid a stand-up fight — and we think he is. His experience and in-ring IQ should tell him to try and make this a wrestling match. That’s because Medic has a horrendous takedown defense of 46 percent. Last time out, he was taken down eight times in the loss.
We expect Means to have success early on with the takedown before Medic uses his physical advantages to take control of this fight. Medic is going to win, but it won’t be a quickie. We’re taking the over bet on this one.
Jonathan Pearce vs. David Onama Betting Pick
Let’s get a moneyline bet in here in the Onama vs. Pearce bet. The odds are pretty darn close in this featherweight contest across the best UFC betting sites, as seen below:
This is a classic styles clash fight. The favorite to win, Pearce, is primarily a wrestler. His takedown average is an impressive 5.29. Pearce is good at getting his opponents to the ground, but less so at actually keeping them down there. Still, on the feet, he’s sneaky good. Nine of his 14 wins have actually been by knockout so he can fall back on that if needed.
Onama, however, is a trained kickboxer. He’s going to have the advantage if this fight is fought standing up. Onama isn’t a high-output striker but instead picks and chooses when to launch big strikes. Seven of his 11 wins have been by way of KO so the finishing threat is there.
When it’s a close fight, it could be this or something else, we almost always favor the wrestler. Time and time again, the fight style has shown its superiority. We’re doing the same here as Pearce is the better to make.
Don’Tale Mayes vs. Caio Machado Betting Pick
Let’s finish off with a heavyweight fight in the preliminary card. Here again, Mayes vs. Machado is near dead even fight odds-wise. It’s almost pick’em, as seen below:
This is your classic heavyweight fight where somebody is getting knocked out most likely. Mayes wrestles a tad, but Machado does none of it. So it should be a stand-up fight for the most part.
Both fighters go about their offense differently though. Mayes is a headhunter through and through. He has one-punch KO power and he knows it cause he’ll pick his spots to throw a big haymaker. Machado doesn’t have the same power, however, he has a way better gas tank. In terms of volume, Machado will bring it more.
Interestingly enough, Mayes opened as almost a -200 favorite but is now even money so that tells you most of the money is on Machado. We would have to agree too. Machado is younger and more skilled. Yes, he lost his UFC debut last time out but he’s better than he let on. Our money is going on Machado and we’re making this bet right away before the betting odds get worse.
