- What: UFC Fight Night
- When: Saturday, June 8
- Where: KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky
Jared Cannonier vs. Nassourdine Imavov Betting Pick
A pair of middleweights headline the show, and itās a doozy of a fight if the betting odds are any indication. This Cannonier-Imavov fight is nearly at pick āem across the best UFC betting sites. Hereās how the odds shake out:
On paper, Imavov should be a much larger favorite. He has two natural advantages ā age and size. Get this, Imavov is 11 years younger than Cannonier. 11 years! Not only that, but Imavov is a giant inside the octagon with his 6-foot-3 frame. Imavov uses that size to stay busy striking and keeping his opponents at range. While Imavov can go for takedowns, he mostly fights standing up.
Then thereās Cannonier, who has been a fixture in the middleweight rankings for a long, long time ā heās currently at No. 4. Heās given the best fighters in the division (Izzy Adesanya, Sean Strickland, Robert Whittaker, and hell, even Anderson Silva) all they can handle. Cannonier has power in his fists, even now at the age of 40. The last time we saw Cannonier in the ring, he picked apart Marvin Vettori with ease. Has Cannonier found the fountain of youth?
Yes and no. Look, Cannonier is as good of a 40-year-old as you can expect out of a UFC fighter. The danger is still there when heās swinging. However, Imavov is a far tougher matchup than Vettori was. That's because Imavov is tougher to hit due to his huge size. For this reason, weāre confidently backing Imavov to win what should be a shootout of a matchup.
Dominick Reyes vs. Dustin Jacoby Betting Pick
Reyes returns to the octagon after a year and a half absence. However, oddsmakers are not high on his chances of winning as heās a +190 underdog. Rather than the moneyline, weāre more interested in betting the Jacoby and Reyes over/under. Hereās how itās being pegged at:
Weāll be honest, weāre inclined to bet the over/under cause weāre not quite sure who wins. Both fighters are hard to put a finger on and we could see paths to victory for each.
Letās start with Reyes, whose claim to fame is a disputed loss to Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title in early 2020. Most, including us, feel Reyes was robbed of a win that night. However, Reyes has been knocked out in all three fights since the Jones loss, meaning he hasnāt won a bout since 2019. But to his credit, those consecutive losses have been to a murderās row of opponents ā Jones (champ), Jan Blachowicz (also champ), Jiri Prochazka (champ again), and Ryan Spann. So maybe Reyes aināt that washed up?
Then thereās Jacoby, who is two years older than Reyes at 36. Heās a former world-class kickboxer in GLORY (losing to Alex Pereira at one point) so likely more dangerous than Reyes on the feet. Jacoby, however, has also been hot and cold as of late in the UFC. Heās gone 1-3 in his last four appearances ā all decision losses.
Our money is going on the under. Reyesā chin is a serious question mark so donāt be surprised if he gets chinned for the fourth straight time. But if he does bounce back, itāll be because he catches Jacoby while striking. All this makes us confident thereās going to be an early stoppage in this one.
Julian Marquez vs. Zach Reese Betting Pick
Hereās another middleweight bout thatās also close odds-wise like the main event. As it stands, Marquez is a slight favorite to beat Reese, per oddsmakers:
Neither of these two have any sort of takedown ability. None! Seriously, neither have gotten a takedown in their UFC stints. Reese does have a ground game though with sneaky-good jiu-jitsu. Marquez, on the other hand, is all stand-up offense and nothing else.
Itās tough to back Reese after he got stopped out by Cody Brundage last time out. Brundage essentially power-bombed Reese as he attempted a ground chokehold. Reese might not make the same mistake against Marquez, but itās not like Marquez doesnāt have stopping ability either. All four of his UFC wins have been by finish and weāre predicting the same happens here. Take Marquez on the moneyline!
