If you’re not betting on UFC Fight Night undercards, then you’re missing out on quality bets. Some of the best gems can be found in the prelims and well outside the main event. That includes this next card. Here are three UFC undercard bouts worth putting money at the next UFC undercard event.
- What: UFC Fight Night
- When: Saturday, December 9
- Where: UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada
Song Kenan vs. Kevin Jousset Betting Pick
This entire card is being headlined by Song — but not this Song. Song Yadong is the event headliner, but don’t sleep on betting Song Kenan vs. Jousset. These two welterweights will open the main card in a competitive fight. We mean, just look at the odds available at top UFC betting sites:
If nothing else, this will be a very entertaining fight as both fighters love to stand up and swing. Jousset lands 6.02 significant strikes per minute — more than Song’s 4.4. Though, Song is more dangerous. He very much has one-punch power and that’s probably Song’s most realistic path to victory.
Here’s an X-factor in the fight though: takedowns. Jousset averages a very respectable 3.11 takedowns per fight. This will be a massive advantage against Song, who is awful at takedown defense. Seriously, his defense is at zero percent. All Jousset needs to do is shoot at the legs to take the wind out of the sails of Song.
Moreover, Jousset has the size advantage. At 6-foot-2 (with a 75-inch reach), he’s one of the bigger fighters you’ll find at welterweight. That size will be a massive difference-maker if they do get on the ground. As you can probably reason by now, we are in fact favoring Jousset to win. Song is a one-trick pony, whereas Jousset has multiple ways of winning.
Hyunsung Park vs. Shannon Ross Betting Pick
This flyweight fight takes place on the prelims. You’ll want to avoid betting the moneyline because Park is a massive favorite to win (-570). You’re not going to make much money on that, hence why we’re putting money on the Park-Ross over/under instead:
Look, Park is going to win this fight — the moneyline odds are completely warranted. The Korean fighter is showing a lot of promise. He’s 8-0 over his career with three of those wins coming in the UFC. This guy is a top-notch grappler. Park likes shooting at legs most of the fight as he’s not completely comfortable on the feet.
That’s probably good news for Ross, who is on a bad run right now. Since entering the UFC on Dana White’s Contender Series, Ross has been finished by KO all three times. Obviously, his chin is pretty suspect but it won’t be tested all that much against a grappler like Park.
Question is, does Park win early by submission or does this possibly go the full rounds? Park has won consecutive fights via tap-out — once in round one and the other in the third. Our gut says this fight goes beyond 1.5 rounds. Ross is a wrestler himself and might be able to fend off the takedown early on. We’re comfortably betting on the over in this one.
Rayanne dos Santos vs. Talita Alencar Betting Pick
Let’s show some love to the women with this pick. A pair of strawweights will tussle in a fight with very close odds. Here’s how the Dos Santos-Alencar betting lines currently sits:
At first glance, each fighter’s age and record don’t appear to match. We mean, Alencar is the older fighter at 33. However, she’s far less experienced with only a 4-0 record. She got into MMA late after a successful grappling career that includes multiple world championships. Then there's Dos Santos, who is 14-6 at only age 28. Dos Santos’ discipline is also jiu-jitsu.
It’s tough to put a finger on Alencar cause her MMA sample size is so small (this is only her second UFC fight). But on paper, we like what we see. She has serious world-class grappling skills. But what we really like about Alencar is when she has her opponent on the ground, she’s not afraid to ground and pound rather than just going for a submission.
Our gut says go Alencar, but our mind says Dos Santos because she’s so much more experienced. Ultimately, we think Alencar is the far better grappler, which will tilt this fight in her favor. We say take the risk and bet on the underdog here.
