The 30-year-old Krylov heads into UFC 314 with an overall record of 30-9-0. The former Ukrainian fighter is working after a two year layoff. He had won three straight fights before war fully broke out in the Ukraine. After that, there were all sorts of problems. Ultimately, Krylov wound up moving to Moscow, Russia so he could resume his career. His resume has not been nearly as colored as his stance when it comes to the war.
Krylov has never earned so much as a title shot in the Light Heavyweight division. He did win a Fight Nights Global Championship, however. The fighter has the distinction of causing more opponents to submit (16) compared to knockouts (12). That is rare in his business and probably why Krylov is a bit feared heading into this bout. Some bettors honestly do not know enough about Krylov literally again because of that layoff.
Meanwhile, Dominick Reyes comes to UFC 314 with a lifetime record of 14-4-0. Unlike Krylov, he has fought in the UFC over the past calendar year. The 35-year-old Reyes has picked up consecutive victories. Most recently, he knocked out Anthony Smith last December at UFC 310. before that, the California native took out Dustin Jacoby in June with another relentless barrage of punches.
Now, the questions are obvious. Can Reyes make a comeback and earn a title shot? Again, Reyes likely does not get a prominent fight after this. He has the tools to frustrate Krylov but does the American have enough tape on the Donbass fighter? Can Reyes tire out a fighter whose training has to be considered kindly as a question mark?

Nikita Krylov Favored To Beat Dominick Reyes
Nikita Krylov was one of the scariest UFC fighters the sport has ever seen. The problem lies in the unknown. He can submit you or get knocked out. Often, there is little in-between. Add in two years of unrest and inactivity and no one has a real clue of what Krylov can do in the octagon.
That is potentially problematic against any opponent. However, going against a southpaw to boot in Reyes is even more problematic.
Sure, the younger Krylov packs more intrigue. But the uncertainty is clear. That’s why the fighter must come out swinging and hit that ground attack early. If Krylov can get in his shots early, he may have the ground game to submit Reyes.
What’s more, the numbers do not lie about Krylov's ground attack. That is not necessarily ideal—for his stamina either. Generating the energy to wear down his opponent takes a toll on himself. At the same time, opponents cannot be enamored with facing 60% of the bout on the ground. Ground and pound makes Krylov a favorite here.
Can Dominick Reyes Beat Nikita Krylov?
Height is about the same between Reyes and Krylov but that southpaw stance is an asset for UFC 314. The angles Reyes can generate could prove to be troublesome for Krylov. Reyes is more dangerous than he appears. Many forget he beat Jon Jones and probably got grifted out of a decision. Between COVID and his confidence, both took major hits after that.

With the potential rate of a power shot from the left, Reyes gets the nod here in what is termed a slight upset. Again, I have to believe if Reyes wins, it is by some form of TKO or KO.
We expect Reyes will be able to stand on his feet long enough. And once he gets some shots in, Reyes can wear down Krylov to gain the victory.
