Carlos Alcaraz The Favorite to Win at Roland Garros in 2024

We're now a couple of days into the second major of the year, the 2024 French Open. But, it's still not too late to bet on who could potentially win it all at Roland Garros. By no surprise, Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz is the favorite to lift the grand prize despite never actually winning this event, with odds priced at +275. There are some other big names right behind him though, such as Jannik Sinner (+380), Novak Djokovic (+400), Alexander Zverev (+500), Stefanos Tsitsipas (+900), and Casper Ruud (+1100). Djokovic is the defending champion at Roland Garros while Casper Ruud has been in the final the last two years. Alcaraz has never been a finalist at the French Open. Rafael Nadal is the record champ at this event with 14 titles, but he already lost in the first round to Zverev.

Carlos Alcaraz (+225)

Despite only making the semifinals at the French Open, Alcaraz remains a frontrunner to win. He lost in the last four in 2023 to Djokovic in a match that turned out to be an absolute marathon. He isn't off to the greatest start in 24', compiling an 18-5 record and only winning one title, beating Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final. Given the run he was on though, it was only a matter of time until the youngster slowed down. He's currently ranked No. 3 in the world and just took down American JJ Wolf in the first round at the French Open. He's solid on clay and will surely be in the mix when the latter stages of the tournament roll around.

Jannik Sinner (+380)

Sinner has had a really strong last year on the ATP Tour. Already in 24', he's racked up three titles and gone 28-2 in the process. He won at Miami, Rotterdam, and his very first major at the Aussie Open. It's a sign that Sinner is coming into his own as one of the best players in the world and it shows by his No. 2 ranking. The Italian hasn't got past the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and just lost in the quarters and the semis in his last two tournaments, which were both on clay. Sinner bested Christopher Eubanks in round one.

Novak Djokovic (+400)

How can you not discuss the GOAT? Djokovic has proven time and time again that he is the greatest player to ever step on a tennis court, no matter how much time he is even away from the sport. While Nole has only won the French Open three times, the fewest titles of all his major wins, he's still dangerous on clay. However, the current world No. 1 is not playing his best tennis this year. A 14-6 record in 24' is very unlike the Serb and he has no titles to go along with it. Sinner beat him in the semifinals in Melbourne in January. Djokovic went three sets in his opening match at Roland Garros, taking down an unranked French opponent.

Alexander Zverev (+500)

Several years ago, Zverev was seen as one of the up-and-comers on the ATP Tour. But, off-court issues and injuries derailed his progression. The German has bounced back in the last year or so, however, showing that he's still a force to be reckoned with. Ranked fourth in the world, Zverev has a 28-9 record this year, winning the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome in early May. He's made a number of quarterfinals and semifinals in other tournaments, too. Zverev was a French Open semifinalist in each of the last three years.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (+900)

Tsitsipas has only been to two Grand Slam finals and one happened to be at the French Open in 2021. That's a good sign ahead of his hopeful run to a title where the Greek already beat Hungarian Martin Fucsovics in three sets on Monday. Tsitsipas has one title and a 24-9 record so far this season, earning just over $2 million. Roland Garros is his chance for a big payday, but it's about much more than that.

Daniil Medvedev (+2800)

It's a bit surprising to see Medvedev so low down this list at +2800. The Russian is a mainstay who typically finds himself in the latter stages of majors, making the Aussie Open final three times, Wimbledon semifinals, and winning the US Open. As for the French Open, Medvedev has never progressed past the quarterfinals. Perhaps that's why he doesn't have the best odds.

French Open Picks

Honestly, I'd usually pick Djokovic but he is not thriving right now. To me, Jannik Sinner looks like a great pick. He'll continue to work his way up the rankings with a second Grand Slam victory.
