The last major tournament before the US Open is the Cincinnati Masters (officially called the Western & Southern Open) that takes place between August 14 and 21. We have a preview of the upcoming bracket, plus best bets to win the 2022 Cincinnati Masters on both the menâs and womenâs singles side. Letâs get right into it:
2022 Cincinnati Masters Menâs Betting Pick
The menâs bracket is composed of 56 players with the top eight seeds receiving an automatic bye in the first round. The players listed below are most favored to win the 2022 Cincinnati Masters menâs bracket, per the top tennis betting sites:Â
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Daniil Medvedev | +400 | +400 |
Rafael Nadal | +450 | +450 |
Carlos Alcaraz | +600 | +600 |
Nick Kyrigios | +700 | +700 |
Jannik Sinner | +1400 | +1400 |
Stefanos Tsitsipas | +1800 | +1800 |
Matteo Berrettini | +2200 | +2200 |
Casper Ruud | +3300 | +3300 |
The biggest storyline of the whole week is the highly anticipated return of Nadal. The 22-time Grand Slam champion â most in tour history â has been sidelined since July. An abdominal injury forced him out of the Wimbledon semifinals and at 36 years old, nursing back from injury is a more cautious process, which explains his month-plus absence.
One has to think thereâs going to be a rust factor affecting Nadal. Not only from the injury, but the event itself too. Nadal has not competed at the Cincinnati Masters since 2017 and even before then, has only won it once in 2013. To us, this feels like a warm up for Nadal before the US Open more than anything else. In spite of all his 2022 success â four singles titles (two of which Grand Slams) and a 35-3 record â weâll be fading the all-timer in Cincy.
We share similar doubts about the other two betting frontrunners, Alcaraz and Medvedev. Neither of the two are playing particularly well as of late, evident by their Canadian Open exits in the round of 32. Since his collapse at the Australian Open, Medvedev has had a 2022 season to forget and is in danger of losing his No. 1 ranking to Nadal if he fails to reach the quarters (and Nadal wins). To his credit, Alcaraz has dazzled most of 2022 but appears to be cooling off as of late (rookie wall perhaps?). Both players are worth avoiding right now.
So if weâre not betting on any one of the top three favorites, then who is the best bet to make among the men? This may shock you, but weâre taking Casper Ruud. We think his +3300 line is criminal, especially after a semi-finals appearance in Canada.
Ruud in the same draw as Alcaraz, but until we see Alcaraz succeed on hardcourts, that feels like an upset waiting to happen. Ruud could also potentially collide with Nadal in the semis, but as we said, Nadal isnât exactly 100 percent yet. You see, the path to victory for Ruud isnât as long as you may think. Heâs a perfect underdog bet, especially at his undervalued odds.
2022 Cincinnati Masters Womenâs Betting Pick
Weâll offer our pick to win the womenâs bracket at the Cincinnati Open soon, but letâs first take a look at the betting odds to win. The following players are most favored to win the singles title:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Iga Swiatek | +275 | +275 |
Simona Halep | +900 | +900 |
Cori Gauff | +1100 | +1100 |
Naomi Osaka | +1600 | +1600 |
Ons Jabeur | +1600 | +1600 |
Aryna Sabalenka | +1700 | +1700 |
Serena Williams | +4000 | +4000 |
Here again, weâre openly fading the top betting favorite, Swiatek. More than anything else, Swiatek has yet to succeed on hard surface at a high level. Before her opening-round win at the previous Canadian Open, she hadnât played a hardcourt match since April. While Swiatek was victorious out of the gate in Canada, she was shockingly upset in the round of 16. This so-so performance on the surface gives us serious doubts, which is why weâre passing on Swiatek.
Rather than Swiatek, our money is going on Halep, who is fresh off a Canadian Open title in her own right. The former No. 1 player is in the midst of a career comeback. Before winning Canada, she also reached the semifinals of the Indian Wells Open and Wimbledon. Her strong 2022 success gives us all the confidence in the world to take her in Cincinnati.
