At the ATP Cincinnati Open, Carlos Alcaraz is returning to the hard courts following his silver medal performance on the clay courts of the Paris Olympics. It will be his first hard court action for the Spaniard since March, but that isn't deterring the oddsmakers. Alcaraz is set as the chalk to be winning his fourth ATP men's singles title of the season and what would be his second in 2024 on a hard court surface.

Alcaraz Coming In Hot
Alcaraz arrives in Cincinnati off his solid performance at the Paris Summer Games. In the gold medal final, the world's third-ranked player fell to world No. 2 Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-7(3-7), 6-7(2-7).
This will be the first appearance for Alcaraz on a hard court since he played at Miami in March. There, he reached the quarterfinals. However, the reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion has won this year in a hard court event at Indian Wells. Over the past 52 weeks, Alcaraz shows a 31-10 record when playing on a hard court surface.
At Indian Wells, Alcaraz beat three of the world's top-five players. He topped No. 4 Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals. Then he ousted world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinals before downing world No. 4 Daniil Medvedev in the final. While running that gauntlet, the Spaniard dropped only one set.
Hip Ailment A Concern For Sinner
Looking to defend his title last week in Montreal, world No. 1 Sinner was downed in the quarterfinals by world No. 8 Andrey Rublev. However, that loss might be the least of the worries for the Italian player.
Throughout the match, Sinner was bothered by a nagging right hip injury. He could be seen rubbing his hip during breaks in play, at one point consulting with a physio.
It's an ailment that has bothered him throughout the 2024 season. During the clay court portion of the campaign, Sinner was forced to withdraw from both the Madrid and Italian Opens.
Carrying the top seed in the ATP Cincinnati Open, he has enjoyed success on hard court surfaces. Along with his Grand Slam triumph at the Australian Open, Sinner also won hard court events in Miami and Rotterdam this year.
Three Former ATP Cincinnati Open Champs In Field
Zverev (2021) and Medvedev (2019) are two of three former champions in the ATP Cincinnati Open field. Zverev beat Rublev to win his title, while Medvedev toppled David Goffin. Medvedev is a solid 18-5 on hard courts this year.
The third past champion in the tournament is Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. He won at Cincinnati in 2017, beating Nick Kyrgios in the final. If you want to make a back to the future style wager, you can get tennis odds of +4000 on Dimitrov at Bovada.
Popular ATP Cincinnati Open Props To Play
Beyond future book wagering on the outcome of the tournament, or moneyline, spread or total plays on individual matches, there are a number of unique prop plays being offered on the ATP Cincinnati Open.
For example, you can bet on whether there will be an unseeded finalist. That might seem like a longshot, but in fact, two years ago, unseeded Borna Coric, then ranked No. 152 in the world, scored his first career ATP Tour win in Cincinnati.
You can also bet on whether a qualifier will reach the final, or which half of the draw will produce the tournament champion. Another option is to wager on whether the eventual winner will drop a set en route to the title.
And The Winner Is . . .
The Paris Olympic men's singles final outcome was remisicent of last year's ATP Cincinnati Open men's singles final. Alcaraz came ever so close to winning. He dropped a 7-5, 6-7(7-9), 6-7(4-7) decision to Djokovic in last year's final.
With Sinner ailing, the door is open for Alcaraz to go one step further in 2024. He's the betting favorite for a reason, and he's gotten the better of every other top player in this event on a hard court already this year.
However, if you'd prefer to go for a price, Medvedev offers value at +800. And Rublev (+2800) is arriving in Cincinnati following a strong tournament in Montreal.
