As the world's best players arrive in New York for the US Open, the final Grand Slam event of the tennis season, there's a new rivalry dominating men's singles. And oddsmakers don't see it subsiding on the hard courts at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

In recent major events, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia's Novak Djokovic have been the last two standing. The Serb won the battle between the two players at the clay courts at the Paris Summer Oympic Games, but it was the Spaniard who was the victor on the grass courts of Wimbledon. In this rubber match, the betting lines at the top online sports betting sites are offering mixed messages as to who will deliver the goods the US Open.

Djokovic is the +200 chalk to win his fifth career US Open men's singles title at Bovada. However, both BetUS and Betonline are going with Alcaraz as the favorite in their US Open tennis futures.

Assessing Men's Singles Top Picks

Only three players have won more US Open men's singles titles in the open era than Djokovic.  He's the defending champion and also was the winner in 2011, 2015 and 2018.

Novak Djokovic

As if he needed the help, the draw is incredibly favorable to Djokovic. Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev, three of the other top contenders, all landed on the opposite side of the draw. That means ultimately, Djokovic will only have to beat one of them to retain his U.S. Open men's singles title.

He still may have to contend with Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud, both past US Open men's singles finalists. But Djokovic has never lost to either player in Grand Slam events, going a combined 4-0 in best-of-five matches against those two players.

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz was 2022 US Open men's singles champion, but lost last year to Medvedev in the semifinals. Overall, he's 42-3 in his last 45 Grand Slam men's singles matches.

Alcaraz is 2-0 this season in Grand Slam matches against Djokovic and Sinner, the other players among the top three US Open contenders. A victory here would make the Spaniard the first men's player to win five Grand Slam titles before his 22nd birthday.

Jannik Sinner

One of Sinner, Alcaraz or Djokovic have been the winner in the last nine men's singles Grand Slam tournaments. The draw for this event is leaving world No. 1 Sinner a tough row to hoe. He may end up having to go through each of the past three US Open men's singles champions - Djokovic, Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev - in order to win the title.

Dealing with lingering hip issues, not to mention the negative attention brought on by a positive doping test, it might be too much to ask the Italian player to overcome. However, he's coming to the US Open off a win in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, so Sinner is arriving on top of his game.

Daniil Medvedev

He was a finalist in last year's event and in 2019 and the US Open men's singles champion in 2021. Medvedev always seems to be delivering his best in this tournament.

He beat Alcaraz in the semifinals here last year and won over Sinner at Wimbledon this year. In fact, he's 4-2 in his last six five-set matches against players ranked among the world's top 20.

US Open Longshots To Consider

Casper Ruud is set at +12500, even though the Norwegian was a losing finalist in the 2022 US Open. He's 7-3 against top-15 opposition this year.

American Frances Tiafoe (+6600) is getting to New York following a final appearance at Cincinnati. But if the form charts hold, he's likely to be facing back-to-back matches against Ben Shelton (third round) and Djokovic (fourth round).

Another top American, Shelton (+5000) was a semifinalist here last year and in this year's French Open. At some point, he's going to make a major breakthrough in a Grand Slam tournament.

Best US Open Prop Bets

Quarter bets are often a solid way to gain a payday when betting on tennis. At +275, Medvedev is a solid play to come out of his quarter, something he's done in three of the past five US Open tournaments.

Beyond betting on the match winner, set betting is another popular tennis prop. You can wager on the exact set outcome, such as 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2. You can also place a wager on which player will win the first set. If you know a heavily-favored top player with a reputation for starting slow, this can present an excellent opportunity to get a good price.

US Open Men's Singles Pick

Taking into account the poor performance of Alcaraz in his clay-court tuneup at Cincinnati, and the sudden distraction that the ruling of no suspension for Sinner's positive test may bring him at this tournament, things certainly appear to be falling nicely into place for Djokovic.

Factor in the easy route he's been given through the draw and that he's 2-0 on hard courts against Alcaraz and it all appears to be lining up for him. Already the oldest player to win a Grand Slam singles title, Djokovic will break his own record while winning his 25th career Grand Slam tournament at the US Open.
