PSG, fresh off their Champions League battle with Man City, will welcome Reims to Parc des Princes. The Parisians will aim to remain undefeated in league play against Stade Reims, a consistent mid-table club in Ligue 1. Reims has not beaten PSG since 2019, a 10-match unbeaten streak for Les Bleus. PSG vs Reims Prediction: Who do Sportsbooks Favor?

PSG are unsurprisingly prohibitive favorites to win this clash with Reims, a fixture they have thoroughly dominated in recent years. Paris S-G are priced at (-420). Stade de Reims are just over 10:1 underdogs at (+1050). The draw pays out at (+640), an outcome that has resulted from back-to-back meetings between these two.

PSG Dominating Domestically, Struggling Continentally

We are over halfway through the Ligue 1 season already and PSG remain unbeaten. The defending champions have 14 wins across 18 league matches, beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the competition. Marseille at first seemed like a worthy adversary to the Parisian giants. But after dropping just a few points along the way, the light is dimming at the end of the tunnel for de Zerbi’s championship hopes.

Littered amongst the league leaders are PSG players everywhere you look. Bradley Barcola is just one behind Marseille’s Mason Greenwood for most goals in the division, while two PSG players (Joao Neves and Achraf Hakimi) are in the top 3 in assists. PSG are on pace to total the most points since their 2018-19 season, despite playing four fewer games. So, is this a sign of PSG really improving, or are the other clubs simply underperforming?

A case can be made for both to be true simultaneously. To knock off mighty Paris, a French club must perform nearly impeccably (see: 2020-21 LOSC). 80 points is probably the baseline for winning a title in Ligue 1, and as of now, only Marseille are pacing close to that number. The parity in France this season has caused more congestion in the middle, and a sort of “crabs in the bucket” situation.

Take Strasbourg, for example. At 10th on 24 points, the club is just 8 points away from 3rd-placed LOSC. A casual onlooker may see PSG’s issues in European play, along with a lack of competition in France, and discredit PSG. But I would argue Luis Enrique has done a very good job of managing the transition from “Mbappe and the rest” to a more team-oriented squad. That accomplishment is proven in the player statistics mentioned earlier; they are a side that is clearly spreading the ball around evenly.

Reims Slipping Defensively After Strong Start

Reims has conceded in their last five matches across all competitions after picking up a penchant for clean sheets. After blanking Strasbourg, Monaco and Le Havre in a month’s span, Reims drew the seventh-tier Still-Mutzig in the French Cup. Stade de Reims was pegged as (-6250) favorites, with the handicap line set at -5.

Yet visiting Reims conceded an equalizer in the latter third of the match. Needing to score to avoid utter embarrassment, Mamadou Diakhon answered five minutes later as the eventual game-winner. But the goal did not erase doubts in what was a truly eye-opening performance. Even a heavily rotated squad should not have struggled to that degree with essentially a men’s league team.

Their lack of confidence continued into their match with St-Etienne. The club was defeated 3-1 by the relegation-threatened hosts. A home defeat to Nice followed by a home draw to Le Havre have forced Reims down to a precarious position on the table. Now looking behind them as much as they are looking ahead, manager Luka Elsner has his work cut out for him.

PSG vs Reims Prediction: Free Betting Pick

An absolutely bonkers match with Man City in the Champions League saw three goals scored off very helpful deflections by defenders. As the rain poured down, it became apparent PSG’s backline was not nearly as water-tight as it used to be. PSG has not kept a clean sheet in four games and conceded multiple goals to Espaly, a fifth-tier French side. Reims have been just as bad at the back, so we could be in for another wild game.

Reims, for all my rambling about their defensive woes, have still been solid up front. In fact, they are an above-average attacking side in Ligue 1 when on the road. My projections indicate they have a 65.67% chance of scoring this weekend, good for an implied line of (-191). Most books have this number much lower.

At BetOnline, you can take Reims team total to go over 0.5 at (-129). I think this shows a lot of value and have already seen the line start to move in the other direction. I took it earlier at (-122) at Bovada, but there is enough meat on the bone to take it up to around (-165). Bet on PSG to continue their streak of concessions.
