Premier League Odds & Game Preview

By Matt Pitt

Leicester City (+185) vs. Arsenal (+135)

Leicester

I picked Leicester City to win in last week’s predictions piece, but they suffered a shock 2-1 away defeat at the hands of newly promoted Hull City. Leicester looked out of sorts against Hull; their usually solid defence was all over the place, and their usually dangerous attack looked toothless.

Arsenal found themselves on the end of a 4-3 home defeat to Liverpool, and were 4-1 down at one point, so both teams want to get their first points of the season in this weekend’s game.

Jamie Vardy is +500 to score the first goal and +145 to score at any time. Either is a good bet due to Arsenal’s makeshift defence not being up to task. On a similar note, looks for Ahmed Musa to score at anytime (+210) as his pace will frighten the Arsenal back four.

If any team is going to win this I think it will be Arsenal, yet I’ll be going for the draw at +250, although the ½ goal spread I Leicester’s favour (-175) does look tempting.

Pick: Tie at +250

Tottenham Hotspur (-230) vs Crystal Palace (+600)

Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur play their first home game of the season this weekend when they entertain London rivals Crystal Palace.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Everton on the opening weekend, going behind to a fifth-minute goal and taking almost an hour to draw level.

Palace lost 1-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion. The Eagles dominated possession but failed to convert that into possession, and this week’s preparation may have been sidetracked by the fact Palace have been in the headlines for their pursuit of Christian Benteke, having a £30 million bid turned down.

Tottenham won this fixture 1-0 last season, and I’d expect a similar scoreline this time around. 1-0 on Bovada is +525 while 2-0 is +500. This also makes the over 1.5 goals market -345. I’ll probably opt to bet on the over 1.5 goals and couple it with a Tottenham win.

Pick: Tottenham Hotspur at -230

Burnley (+500) vs. Liverpool (-190)

Liverpool

Burnley lot 1-0 at home to Swansea City last weekend and never seriously threatened the Swansea goalkeeper, which must be worrying for Burnley fans, especially as they face Liverpool this week who are much better team.

Liverpool were delighted to put four goals past Arsenal last Sunday, not so much about conceding three, but they have their first three points of the season, and should secure another three after they return home from Turf Moor.

Burnley are likely to make it difficult for Liverpool thanks to their solid defence, and if you thnk htye can hold out for a draw, you’ll find odds of around +315.

Bookies make a 1-0 Liverpool win the most likely result at +525, and I like the Liverpool-Liverpool Half Time / Full Time at +105 or the Draw-Liverpool at +255.

Steer clear of betting on Daniel Sturridge to open the scoring at +400. Although he’s likely to return from yet another injury, I can’t see Jurgen Klopp dropping any of his attackers after the superb performance they put in against Arsenal.

Pick: Liverpool at -190
