MLS Best Bets: Chicago Fire v Inter Miami CF Odds

Despite their host status, Chicago is not the preferred side by bookmakers. Inter Miami will burden the pressure of being betting favorites, albeit at a long price tag of (+137). The Fire are (+185), good for an implied probability to win of 35.1%. A draw is available at a line of (+262).

Chicago Fire Improving Under Gregg Berhalter

The Chicago Fire are experiencing a renaissance under former USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter. Taking the reins this season, Berhalter has washed away years of depression with a strong start to 2025. Through 7 games, Chicago has earned 11 points in advance of four home matches in the next five scheduled fixtures. That puts the Fire in a great position to climb further up the table before a long road trip in late spring.

Chicago’s first big statement came just a few weeks ago when the club traveled to British Columbia and dispatched the current Western Conference leaders Vancouver 3-1. I wrote about their strong underlying statistics at the time and how the club was undervalued in the betting market. As so often occurs in the MLS, the table can flip from one season to the next. Case in point is the LA Galaxy, last year’s champions who find themselves winless so far.

Unfortunately for Chicago supporters, past performances against Inter Miami do not bode well for Sunday night. The club has lost its two meetings with the Herons since Lionel Messi arrived in South Florida. Their last affair took place in August of 2024, which saw Inter Miami score 4 on the road en route to an easy 4-1 victory.

Inter Miami Undefeated, But Not in Lead of Eastern Conference

New manager Javier Mascherano has picked up right where Tata Martino left his side domestically last term. Inter Miami are on pace for another dominant regular season and a finish atop the Eastern Conference. At the moment, Miami are only behind Columbus on points, although they have yet to lose a match and have a game in hand. Their last two outings have been somewhat disappointing, however.

Inter Miami lost at home to LAFC in the first leg of their quarterfinals tie in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, and now face a deficit on the road to stay alive. Following that scoreless performance was a 1-1 draw with Toronto in front of their home crowd. To add context, Toronto has not won a match all year and currently sit second-to-last in the East.

In exciting news for South Beach soccer fans, Kevin de Bruyne announced this year would be his last donning the sky blue for Manchester City. Inter Miami owner David Beckham expressed sincere interest in signing de Bruyne, with the club holding his MLS “discovery rights.” That’s essentially legal fancy talk for “dibs.” One major obstacle to de Bruyne arriving in the United States is salary: The Belgian midfielder is currently paid over $300,000 per week.

Chicago Fire v Inter Miami CF Prediction: MLS Best Bets

Typically I look to fade Inter Miami from a betting perspective. The club is perennially overvalued as one of the most popular teams in the league. Their odds rarely reflect their true ability, and their expected goals statistics betray their current record. But if a side like Inter Miami consistently scores first, expected goals can be a misleading metric, as most clubs sit back and play more defensively in a positive game state.

Inter Miami plays a pivotal tie with LAFC in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday. Most of the club’s starters will see significant minutes in the second leg, which could mean Mascherano will choose to rest players for the match against Chicago. Those circumstances could justify Chicago being just a slight underdog in this matchup, especially considering Chicago will enjoy over a week’s rest.

Yet I can’t help but think there is value on Inter Miami. My projections indicate Miami should be (-171) favorites in the Draw No Bet Market, but BetUS is offering (-128). It is possible the stock for the Chicago Fire, one of the worst teams in the country last season, is at its apex. It’s often helpful to think of betting as similar to a stock exchange, with prices adjusting depending on recent performances.

In this match, I think it’s time to sell high on Chicago and back Inter Miami despite the rest disadvantage. I feel more confident trusting a team like Miami to remain resilient while dealing with fatigue, considering they have played deep into tournaments like the Leagues Cup and still managed to earn top finishes in the Eastern Conference. My final recommendation: Take Inter Miami (-128) to win or get your money back in the event of a draw.
