England vs. Senegal Odds
Heading into the matchup on Sunday, it's England who is favored over Senegal. England (-185) is expected to defeat Senegal (+575) at the end of regulation. A draw after 90 minutes comes in with odds of (+300), so the books expect England to take care of business by the final whistle. However, it's important to note a Money Line bet for elimination games only includes the first 90 minutes (and added time), so extra time won't count.
The spread for this game is set at England -1.0 (-105), while the goal total leans towards under 2.5 goals at (-162), indicating a low-scoring game is expected.
England Best Bets
England has made it to the round of 16 and will now look to fight for their spot in the quarterfinals at the World Cup. They drew a favorable matchup against Senegal, who while one of the fastest teams in attack at the tournament, aren't as well equipped up and down the pitch as England. The Three Lions will look to pick up where they left off in what was a strong showing in the group stages.
England won two games and drew once in the group stages, surrendering a total of two goals, and none in their final two games. With back-to-back clean sheets, England will be looking to further improve their impressive defensive tally at the World Cup. Despite letting two goals through against Iran, they've corrected their issue and Harry Maguire is playing with the form fans saw from him in 2018.
Harry Kane will look to score his first goal of the tournament as he leads England's attack in the knockout stages. The English talisman has been stifled thus far into the World Cup, but he's a proven finisher and will surely be eager to add to his career goalscoring tally against Senegal. Senegal conceded a goal in every single game of the World Cup thus far, including one against Qatar, so I don't foresee England having too much trouble in front of the net.
With that in mind, there are two bets I'm targeting for England. The first bet is England over 1.5 total goals (-110). England recorded 3+ goals in two of their three games at the group stages. While they were shut out against the USA, they shouldn't have too much trouble putting up goals against Senegal with the arsenal of strong finishers they boast.
In addition to the England team total, I'm also banking on Harry Kane to score in this one. Kane has an absurd 51 goals in just 78 games for England in his career, and his lack of end product at the World Cup will surely be motivating him to take more shots against Senegal. At (+165) odds for one of the best goalscorers of all time to get the job done against a mid-tier defense? I'm sold. Harry Kane Anytime Goalscorer (+165). Book it.
Senegal Best Bets
Senegal is through to the round of 16 after placing behind the Netherlands in Group A. Senegal recorded two wins and a loss in the group stage, scoring five goals while conceding four. They'll have to be at their best if they want to get through England's defense, which is playing phenomenally of late. Ismaila Sarr will be crucial for Senegal if they're to get a win on Sunday.
He scored an impressive penalty against Ecuador and his stunning speed will be a handful for England's defense to cope with. Kalidou Koulibaly will be their big-bodied presence on defense looking to hold off the shifty English attackers and protect the net. The books don't anticipate a high-scoring game in this one, and unfortunately for Senegal, neither do I. With the way England's defense has been playing, it'll be difficult for Senegal to get the same types of looks on goal that they did in the group stages.
Possession also figures to be dominated by England, which will make chances for Senegal even more difficult to come by. Because of that, I think Senegal will get shut out by the Three Lions, so the final pick here Senegal Total Goals Under 0.5 (-128).
