Chelsea are on the hunt to leapfrog Nottingham Forest and Newcastle for third place on the Premier League table. The Blues will have a good chance to pick up 3 points at home against relegation-threatened Wolves. Wolves have lost back-to-back games by a scoreline of 0-3 after enjoying a brief purple patch under new manager Vitor Pereira. Chelsea vs Wolves Prediction: Who do Sportsbooks Favor?

Chelsea are prohibitively priced at (-282) to give Wolves a third straight league defeat. The visitors are over 7:1 to upset the West London-based club. A draw is also highly unlikely, according to top online sportsbooks. In the event the two clubs cannot separate themselves after 90 minutes, the draw pays out at (+500).

Is Chelsea a Dark Horse for the Premier League Title?

Chelsea have quietly snuck into the top 5 of the Premier League and boast very strong statistics as the new year unravels. At 41 total goals, only league leaders Liverpool have more offensive production. And their goal differential of 15 puts them only behind the Reds and Arsenal. But a 5-game winless skid against rather weak opposition has demoralized the club.

Losses to Ipswich Town (away) and their town rivals Fulham (home) certainly put a damper on expectations of a title run. Prominent Chelsea players have even stated to the media they have no hope of winning a title and are instead focused simply on putting together the best product possible. Draws to Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace during this poor run of form is discouraging for the Blues. But I rate those clubs higher than many would, and as two of those three came at home, some excuses can reasonably be made.

With that being said, manager Enzo Maresca will be keen to pick up 3 points against Wolves this weekend. The club’s February slate is much more daunting than what they have faced in the last few games, so 3 points will be essential to calming nerves around the locker room. This fixture’s history will be in the back of players’ minds as well. Wolves have won three of the last four meetings with Chelsea, including last year’s trip to Stamford Bridge.

Wolves Suffering Growing Pains Under New Manager

After many weeks of speculation, Gary O’Neil was officially removed from his post as Wolves manager in December. He oversaw a horrific decline to the bottom of the table, leaving his replacement Vitor Pereira with the task of avoiding Wolves’s relegation for the first time since their promotion in 2018. Pereira immediately earned dominant victories over Leicester City and Man United, along with a well-earned draw against Tottenham.

But back-to-back 3-goal losses, sandwiching a narrow win over Championship side Bristol City in the FA Cup, have brought Pereira & co. back down to reality. Typically, clubs see a boost in morale and performance upon hiring a new manager. Dubbed the “new manager bounce,” Wolves seemed to have taken advantage of the phenomenon and made a big leap. But the bounce only lasts a few weeks usually, and the growing pains quickly arrive.

Wolves face Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Bournemouth in their next four scheduled Premier League matches. Maintaining a level head will be key to surviving this nightmare February and staying within sight of relegation safety. Just a few points gained during this stretch will likely be seen as a job well done by many Wolves supporters. And the jury is still out on Pereira’s ability to lead the club, meaning the next month could be a very important one for the Portuguese’s job security.

Chelsea vs Wolves Prediction: How to Bet Chelsea Match

Neither side is particularly ecstatic about their recent performances. Monday’s fixture will prove to be a sort of measuring stick for improvement in the new year. Pereira’s Wolves have been very up and down, with excellent performances against United wiped away by duds to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

The tactics of these two clubs clash quite heavily. Chelsea play a very open style with a flexible formation both in and out of possession. The result has been some thrilling action in back-and-forth games. But Wolves play much more direct and compact under Pereira, whose philosophy is more organized and conservative in nature.

This clash in style likely favors Wolves if they can force Chelsea to make mistakes in their half and convert on the counter attack. Chelsea struggled against Crystal Palace, Everton and Ipswich Town, who all fit similar profiles. My projections indicate an Asian handicap of +1.5 for Wolves should be lined at (-129), so the current line is showing us some value. I will back Wolves to keep this game at least within one goal at odds of (-105), available at BetUS.
