2022 World Cup: Will United States Qualify Alongside Canada and Mexico?

With the qualifiers entering their final rounds of play this month, betting odds on the 2022 World Cup are reaching a natural crescendo. Though many nations have already secured their spot in Qatar for this coming November, a bunch of other countries is still battling for one of the final places in the mega tournament.

Among the teams that have yet to fully qualify is the United States men's national squad. The USMNT does, however, control their own fate over the next three games. Many expect them to qualify for the 2022 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico. But after a tough first few qualifying rounds, their fate very much remains to be seen.

And with that in mind, here's a look at the latest online soccer betting odds ahead of the final few games in the CONCACAF:

Can the United States Get a Third Straight Win Over Mexico?

The pressure is on the United States to pick up every victory possible. There are three qualifying spots left in this division, but Canada has already essentially sewn up one. It would take an epic collapse on their behalf to miss the 2022 World Cup. That basically leaves the United States vying for two spots.

Winning against Mexico could turn the USMNT into a virtual lock themselves. And luckily for them, they have beaten the national team twice in qualifying play—once in August and another time in November.

Still, Mexico represents one of the toughest opponents left in the CONCACAF overall. Jesus Corona is among the best setup men to ever take the pitch, and they have yet to lose a game on their home field (3-0-2).

The latter matters for the United States. They're scheduled to travel in games against both Mexico and Costa Rica. And without winning one of them, they can kiss their Qatar hopes goodbye.

From where we're standing, it's time to worry. Mexico has played well at home in the qualifiers to give the United States the nod here.

The United States Faces Must-Win Matchup vs. Panama...No Matter What Happens vs. Mexico

Win or lose against Mexico, the USMNT needs this matchup. And they should get it.

Panama is among the handful of teams in the final qualifying rounds with the least imposing depth. On offense specifically, they don't have much to get them going outside of Rolando Blackburn and Eric Davis. It shows in their results, too.

On top of that, Panama's interior defense has started to show cracks later in the qualifiers. They are now a mere plus-one in the goal differential department and will be hard-pressed to stop the United States' leading playmakers in Ricardo Pepi, Brendan Aaronson, and Antonee Robinson.

Odds for this match will be available immediately after the United States vs. Mexico, but the outcome probably won't impact the lines all that much. The U.S. should enter as heavy favorites.

Costa Rica will NOT be Favored to Beat the United States

Could this be the match that determines the United States' 2022 World Cup fate? It just might be. A lot rests on how they fare against Mexico.

Some might peddle Costa Rica as the favorite no matter what. They are not only playing at home, but their defense has been among the stingiest during qualifying rounds. Their goalie rotation has allowed only seven scores across 11 matches.

Here's the thing: Costa Rica's offense is busted. Bryan Ruiz is the only player on the team to score more than one goal in qualifying play so far, and they don't generate a ton of shots between the posts in the first place.

Though the United States' defense at the point of attack can be shaky, the lack of offensive diversification in Costa Rica's portfolio simplifies their life a great deal. The USMNT should be able to win this one even if they score only a single goal.
