- What: 2025 Six Nations Championship
- Who: England vs. Scotland
- Where: Twickenham Stadium, London, England
- When: Saturday, February 22nd
- Time: 11.145 a.m ET
After dominating this fixture in the early 2000s, England haven’t managed to beat Scotland since the 2020 Six Nations, when the Three Lions won a tight contest 13-6 at Murrayfield.
Since then it has been all Scotland. The Scots have won the four previous Calcutta Cup matches, and if they win again on Saturday, not only will Gregor Townsend’s team make it five wins in a row over the old enemy, but also three wins in a row at England’s Twickenham home.

England
England is the No.6 team in World Rugby’s official world rankings. Steve Borthwick’s team endured a miserable Autumn International Series, losing to New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.
The only joy was a 59-14 win over Japan. And let’s face it, if England had lost that, Steve Borthwick would have been sacked.

Borthwick came into this Six Nations under pressure. His team has been underperforming and he needed to show that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The competition got off to an okay start. England led Ireland 10-5 at halftime in the Aviva Stadium. But then a three-peat chasing Ireland took the English apart in the second half.
The Irish scored 22 unanswered points. Only with the game won did the Irish ease off, allowing England to score two late tries to make the score look respectable at 27-22.
England needed a response in their second match against France. And after coming under the cosh early on, the Three Lions did respond.
The score was 7-7 at halftime. England was lucky to be level to be fair. But then a blistering second half saw the lead change hands a couple of times before Elliot Daly scored the match-deciding try with just one minute left on the clock.
England pulled off a famous one-point win (26-25). But if they don’t finish the competition with three wins from their remaining three matches, Borthwick will immediately find himself back under pressure.
Scotland
Scotland is ranked No.7 in the world, putting Gregor Townsend’s team just one place behind England.
The Scots started the 2025 Six Nations with a 31-19 win over Italy at Murrayfield on the opening weekend. It wasn’t a totally convincing performance, but with bigger fish to fry, Scotland’s performance was classed as getting the job done.
So, could Scotland step up in Round 2 and give Ireland a proper match at Murrayfield?
No!
Scotland were totally outplayed. They had a brief spell on either side of half-time that made the score look respectable, but apart from that, Ireland totally dominated the match and were well worthy of their 32-18 win.
In fact, the match was so one-sided, that the result makes good reading for Scotland. They should have lost by 30+ points.
Luckily for Gregor Townsend, his team has an immediate chance to put the record straight when they take on England.
England vs. Scotland betting picks
Based on the performances of two nations in their respective round 2 matches there can only be one winner at Twickenham.
England has a home advantage, and they looked a far better team against France than Scotland did against Ireland.
Rugby Union isn’t that simple, though, and Scotland will be well up for the match against England.
That said, we still think England will win. But at -350, they are probably too short to back to win on the money line.
So will England win by enough to cover the 8.5-point spread?
The spread amount is a converted try and a conversion. If England are on their game, they should manage it. If Scotland plays like they did against Ireland, England will cover with ease.
England to win and cover the spread is our betting pick.
