So who's it going to be? Welp, we have betting picks for those interested. Not just on who to bet on, but who NOT to bet on (which is half the battle).
And for the record, we're not sharing any political opinions here. We're completely bi-partisan and our choice is based on who will net us the most coin — not which candidate will appease our ego most. With that out of the way, here's our free betting advice:
Don't Bet On Trump
We'll go ahead and say it upfront: save your money and don't side with Trump in this bet. We have no doubt Trump will go for a "revenge run" at President, but his ship has sailed.
Look, Trump caught lightning in a bottle in 2016. He bullied a weak class of Republican nominees before beating out one of the least-liked Democratic nominees in history for the oval office. His campaign built on being an "outsider" and "businessman" caught on with voters who wanted to try something new.
That will not work in 2024, just as it didn't in 2020. While Trump's tactics in 2016 were a "breathe of fresh air" to some voters, those effects wore off over time. You saw evidence of that in the 2020 polls which showed Trump performed worse with white voters — the most important demographic of all — than his first presidential run.
But the last nail in the coffin for Trump? Ageism. If he somehow earned the nominee in 2024, Trump would do so at the age of 79 years old — the oldest candidate in American history. Think about it, "newness" is built into the fabric of America. Everyone wants a new car, a new job, a new lover, and so forth. Unfortunately for Trump, the same new-is-better mentality applies to presidential candidates, too.
DeSantis Will Be The Nominee
Yes, we're hitching our wagon to DeSantis, the current governor of Florida. The 42-year-old checks every box you'd want out of a Republican nominee for the White House.
For one, he's currently overseeing one of the largest economies in not only the United States, but the entire world. If Florida was an independent country, it would be the 15th largest in the world based on GDP. Even more, Florida is a hotbed for different ethnicities and transients from other cities, which shows DeSantis has the broad appeal needed to earn the nominee.
Speaking of Florida, the state has attracted a flux of new residents. One of the big stories coming out of the pandemic is how many people have fled to live in Texas and Florida. The Sunshine State, in particular, has had success luring tech-focused workers from Silicon Valley down to Miami. This has contributed to DeSantis' rising profile in the GOP.
Last but not least, DeSantis is positioning himself as a "competent" version of Trump. What's that, you ask? It's old-fashioned Republican values and policies but without Trump's divisive and controversial ways. Inside the party, many believe that's the winning formula for retaking the White House.
And we certainly agree with that sentiment. While a lot can happen from now until the presidential race heats up in 2023, right now DeSantis is in the driver's seat and it's his race to lose.
It's worth noting that political betting is strictly available on offshore betting sites. The regulated bookies stateside, both online and in physical casinos, are barred from taking bets on politics as it's against US law. So if you want to bet on US politics, your options are limited to offshore books. If you're unfamiliar with that world, take a gander at the list below.
These betting sites are the "cream of the crop" in the offshore world.
