Back Redwoods to beat Atlas in final regular season Premier Lacrosse League fixture

This weekend is the final round of matches in the regular season of the Premier Lacrosse League. Archers have already secured the top spot, but elsewhere there’s still plenty left to sort out. Atlas vs. Redwood is one such match. Atlas is trying to secure a place in the playoffs, with Redwoods looking for the final place in the lucrative 2024 Championship series. Here we look ahead to the fixture in our latest Lacrosse betting picks.

They are now the +200 favorites to win the competition outright. Cannons (+475), Waterdogs (+500), Whipsnakes (+500), Chaos (+700), and Redwoods (+800) have joined them in the postseason.

The last remaining spot is between Atlas and Chrome. But the reality is, it’s going to take some turnaround for Atlas not to take the final playoff position.

The betting backs that up. In the latest betting to win the 2023 PLL, Chrome is +5000, and Atlas is +800. This shows how unlikely it is for Chrome to make it through to the postseason.

But stranger things have happened, and the best way for Atlas to ensure that two freak results don’t see them eliminated is for them to defeat Redwoods at the Zions Bank Stadium on Saturday night.

Redwoods are looking for the final 2024 Championship Series Position!

Redwoods themselves have plenty to play for. They currently sit in fourth position, the final qualifying place for the 2024 Championship series. Archers, Cannons, and Waterdogs have already qualified in the other three positions.

If Redwoods lose to Atlas, and Whipsnakes or Chaos win, they are out of the top four. Of the three teams with a chance of finishing fourth, Redwoods have a points difference of -13, which is by far the worst.

Whipsnakes are +4 and Chaos are -2. But going in the favor of Redwoods, they have won five matches. Whereas, Whipsnakes and Chaos have only won four. This means Redwoods’ destiny is still in their own hands. If they beat Atlas, there is nothing anybody else can do. But if they lose, they are relying on other results.

Atlas vs. Redwoods Betting Odds

In match betting, Redwoods are the -140 favorites on the money line. Atlas is +100. On the handicap spread, Atlas is -150 with a 1.5-point start. Redwoods are +110 from -1.5 points.

Two out-of-form teams

Both of these teams had close matches last week. Atlas went down to Cannons. As for the Redwoods, they needed overtime to defeat Chrome.

Atlas has now lost for three weeks in a row. They last won on the league’s resumption after the midseason break for the All-Star match. On that occasion, they defeated Chrome 11-9.

Since their win over the league’s bottom team, they have lost 14-13 to Archers (O/T), 14-11 to Waterdogs, and last week’s 14-13 defeat to Cannons.

Redwoods have fared only slightly better since the resumption after the All-Star match. They lost the first match back 16-10 to Cannons, and they followed that up with a 14-12 defeat to Chaos on Week 8.

Week 9 saw an improvement in fortune, when Redwoods defeated Cannons 16-15 after overtime. Not only did this win end their losing streak, but it also confirmed their position in the playoffs.

Still far from their best, they again needed overtime to win the following weekend. This time, they sneaked past the bottom of the table Chrome with an 11-10 win.

Our Pick

Neither of the teams looks in great form. It’s almost a case of who wants to lose the match the least. Atlas will be nervous, but they have a one-win and 17-point advantage over Chrome at the bottom of the table.

Even if Chrome wins, they will need to turn around the 17-point deficit, and that’s going to be some ask.
We feel that if Atlas aren’t in danger of going out of the competition, they might take their foot off the gas. This could lead to a win for Redwoods, and it could be by a couple of points or more.

The money line odds for a Redwoods win is -140. While to win by two points or more, the odds on the handicap spread are +110. We’re happy to take the extra small risk and go for the handicap win for Redwoods.
