Japan (+150)

Without defending champion Russia in the mix, the stage is set for a fierce competition between gymnastics powerhouses Japan and China for the team title. Leading the Japanese squad is Hashimoto Daiki, the reigning world and Olympic all-around champion, supported by seasoned athletes Kaya Kazuma and Tanigawa Wataru. Newcomers Oka Shinnosuke and Sugino Takaaki round out the team. With Japan coming off a World Championship win last year, they enter the games as the slight favorites.

China (+200)

China, who finished third in Tokyo behind Russia and Japan and secured second place at last year’s World Championships, will field an experienced squad. Leading the team are world all-around champions Zhang Boheng (2021) and Xiao Ruoteng (2017). They are joined by Liu Yang, the defending world and Olympic rings gold medalist, and Zou Jingyuan, the reigning Olympic parallel bars champion.

Other Contenders

The United States (+300) and Great Britain (+500) secured world bronze medals in 2023 and 2022 respectively. They are poised to be strong contenders and could deliver surprising performances. Both teams have a legitimate chance at medaling in any category. Brody Malone, returning to peak form after a major injury, is expected to be a key player for Team USA, along with Frederick Richard, last year’s world all-around bronze medalist.

Great Britain’s Joe Fraser is also making a comeback from injury, joining the team alongside two-time defending pommel horse champion Max Whitlock. The British squad also features reigning vault world champion Jake Jarman and European floor gold medalist Luke Whitehouse.

Olympic Gymnastics

Gymnastics has been a staple of the Summer Olympic Games since the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896. Initially, only men competed in the events. It wasn't until the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam that women were allowed to participate in artistic gymnastics. Rhythmic gymnastics made its Olympic debut at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. Trampoline events were introduced at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
