NHL Thursday Night Bets - Devils, Islanders Picks Headline Slate

The regular season opens for more hockey teams. Fans are getting pumped for what expects to be a more "normal" 2022-23 NHL season. Yes, games will be on all over the place Thursday night. While some teams playing have had a game or two under their belt, our NHL Thursday Night Bets look at Devils and Islanders picks to headline the slate.

The New Jersey Devils open in Philadelphia against the Flyers, while the Islanders start their season versus the Florida Panthers.

NHL Odds And Numbers Thursday

After six more games Wednesday night got the blood pumping, the Thursday slate should get fans cranked into overdrive! Early in the season, there will be a good deal of chaos. Be patient, and do not bet over your head. Now, the NHL Odds and Numbers for Thursday are intriguing. There are some trap games and, again, some more openers.

Always browse heavily this time of year when it comes to NHL odds. This will be a considerable adjustment period with staggered starts to the schedule. The days of compressed schedules are gone, at least for now. Therefore, getting a jump early with all the correct information is essential.

The online sportsbook reviews, offer even more choices. The idea is to examine the prime NHL betting sites, plus promotional bonuses and offers. After all, if we take a few extra shots early, that could pay off as the season rolls along.

Below is our table of numbers for this exciting Thursday night in the NHL.

Let's begin by going to the "City Of Brotherly Love" as the New Jersey Devils face the Philadelphia Flyers.

NHL Thursday Night Bets - New Jersey And Philadelphia Rivalry

The New Jersey and Philadelphia rivalry is fun for the NHL Thursday Night Bets, no matter the record! The New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers have both fallen on some hard times. Little is expected of either team this season. Frankly, the Flyers may even finish among the worst teams in the NHL. However, all that goes out the window when facing the hated New Jersey Devils.

The New Jersey Devils have had their own problems since COVID hit. The Devils key more on offense, however. New Jersey has potential 100-point player Jack Hughes, while Philadelphia has young goaltender Carter Hart mixed with some prideful players. The expectation is that many goals could still be scored in Philadelphia on Thursday night. Even the betting sites have noted this, as some briefly set the over/under for goals at 6,5 goals. Thankfully, those sites backed off to 6.0.

So, why that goal total you may ask? If one has seen the moneyline, it is dead even right now which becomes a coin flip essentially.  There does not exist too much confidence in Philadelphia taking care of business at home against a New Jersey team who showed quite a bit of offense in the preseason.

New Jersey Expects More Than Injurious Pain

Bluntly, New Jersey expects more than injurious pain this season. Yes, they say this yearly, but the "playoff bubble" is something the Devils want to be on. That is a better fate than contending again and again for lottery picks. Tom Fitzgerald believes this is a playoff team or close. If their goaltending can be around average and healthy, that would be a great first step.

The problem is that MacKenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek are a new tandem for New Jersey. It may take time for things to gel. Blackwood should start on Thursday against Carter Hart. Blackwood, when healthy, has performed well in Philadelphia. Throw last year's numbers out the window.

Now, the Devils know they have the offense to shock some teams. They are facing a nervous Flyers team under John Tortorella. That should lead to a few more scoring chances for the Devils and potentially more goals. The moneyline is a reasonable pick. That is one value wager. Back the Devils Thursday night behind Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt.

Isles Start Their Season Against The Florida Panthers

The NHL Thursday Night Bets welcomes the Isles as New York starts their season against the Florida Panthers. Yes, these are two teams who quickly want to atone for how their seasons ended. For Florida, they were swept out of the second round of the playoffs by Tampa Bay. As for the Isles, their season never truly got going due to more COVID issues, and that road trip. Simply, New York never recovered.

After an off-season viewed as a total disaster, the Islanders are under pressure. Ilya Sorokin, Anders Lee, and Mathew Barzal need to all perform at a high level if the Isles expect to make the playoffs. Their season starts against the Panthers who have the same Stanley Cup aspirations. Matthew Tkachuk was brought in to be that top-scoring guy who could advance Florida a little further. Out went MacKenzie Weegar and Jonathan Huberdeau to Calgary.

Expect some goaltending in this game. The Isles figure to be near even money on Long Island which is enticing enough to take. Therefore, bet the home team here to start their 2022-23 season off right.

NHL Thursday Night Bets - Buffalo and Ottawa?

Finally, Buffalo and Ottawa make an appearance. The Ottawa Senators made a bunch of changes in the offseason including acquiring Alex DeBrincat from Chicago. However, a slight cloud hangs over their head with Alex Formenton and Drake Batherson (Hockey Canada scandal). Add in an injury to Cam Talbot and Buffalo has become a slight favorite with Owen Power playing in his first game for Buffalo.

Pick Buffalo and do not get cute here.
