OSB Tampa Bay To Make Las Vegas Walk The Plank

The previews keep piling up like it is the Christmas Rush. Wait, it is! Week 14 of the National Football League digs into the an odd matchup between Las Vegas and Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers and Raiders have both been trending down in recent weeks. Granted, the injuries seem to derail Tampa Bay but the Raiders are a different story. Anyhow, football is always nice down in Florida this time of year. The Raiders vs Buccaneers bets preview a matchup that illustrates several unknowns.

  • What? NFL 2024/2025 Week Fourteen - Las Vegas Raiders vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Where? Raymond James Stadium - Tampa Bay, Florida
  • When? Sunday December 8th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS

Week 14 is one of those weeks in football that screams December. Teams on the bye week include Indianapolis, New England, Baltimore, Washington, Denver, and Houston. Once again, Baltimore is probably thankful for a bye and so is Denver. One might not believe this but there is a team in this matchup that could still win their division.

Raiders vs Buccaneers Bets Set To Plunder

Raiders vs Buccaneers bets remain set to plunder. Yes, this is the only matchup of the NFL season that feels like an avalanche of pirate references are to come. Anyway, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite the many obstacles, are now in a first-place tie for the NFC South. At 6-6, it is the division, once again, that is destined to go down to the wire. Would 9-8 (maybe 8-9) be enough to get in the playoffs this way? That answer seems like yes more and more everyday.

The Tampa Bay defense is far from great but Bucky Irving may be this team's true underrated star. Irving's speed makes him one of the more dangerous runners in the NFL. He finally got a starter's load of carries in Week 13 and flourished. Irving ran the ball 25 times for 152 yards and another touchdown (that's three games in a row). Teams may have more film to prepare but the way he breaks tackles and gets to the second level is uncanny.

Then there are the Las Vegas Raiders. Vegas has lost 10 of their first 12 games, look to be firing their coach again, and battling for the top draft pick come 2025. Their 2-2 start has imploded with eight straight defeats. Sometimes they keep games close and sometimes they find inventive ways to lose. Las Vegas ranks 28th in points allowed partially because their offense is so bad. Their rushing totals alone are 31st or worse in almost every major metric.

Another big problem for Vegas is the turnover battle. A -18 margin includes no turnovers caused since the bye week. Yes, the Raiders have played three games since then. Tampa Bay is not laying more than a touchdown here which is surprising. The Buccaneers should get win number seven with a cover.

Tampa And Those Points

Now, Raiders vs Buccaneers bets lean toward Tampa and those points on Sunday. Again, this contests gets played in beautiful Florida where the afternoon temperatures will warm up by the afternoon. While the Buccaneers ranked fifth in the NFL in terms of offense, they rank 25th defensively. It means the Raiders might have a chance to put up a few more points than usual on Sunday. Based on the last three weeks, Tampa Bay would have to likely score 30+ points for the over to work here.

Giving teams extra life is always dangerous. Tampa Bay looked out of things last week, then back, then out again. In the end, teams find a way sometimes. The Buccaneers outlasted the Panthers in Carolina. After this home game, Tampa Bay goes back on the road to Los Angeles then Dallas. Nothing is truly easy this time of year.

Also, that is why more points could be on the menu for this game. Tampa Bay gives up the second-most amount of yards in the NFL through the air (3099) and the Raiders attempt the third-most passes in the league. The game has the appearance of setting up for a very late cover on the final drive or two.

Numbers staying around 46.5 is not a surprise given the sportsbooks seem fixated here for a few games on Sunday.

Trying To Spread Some Early Christmas Cheer

Okay, the Raiders vs Buccaneers bets try to spread some early Christmas cheer. A few more options have opened up on the menu. Teams opposing the raiders do get almost 2/3 of their touchdowns through the air (21 to 11). Baker Mayfield averages just over two passing touchdowns a game. Turnovers are interesting as Mayfield has fumbled 11 times and thrown 11 interceptions. However, expect the over 1.5 passing touchdowns to come in at a reasonable number.

Again, the first drive outlook could be a possibility. Tampa Bay netting a touchdown right away sends a message and could be viable on Sunday. At +175 via BetUS, this becomes more and more attractive of a choice. If one is wondering about the Vegas punt, that has moved from Even to -130 already.

For a few dollars more, maybe that Tampa first drive touchdown is in the cards on Sunday.
