Vikings vs Rams Bets Could Be A Passing Fancy
Vikings vs Rams bets could be a passing fancy. As much as Minnesota and Los Angeles can run the ball, passing will be vital in this game. Sam Darnold must hit open targets better than he did in Week 18 against Detroit. That 31-9 defeat left Minnesota fans and bettors with a considerably sinking feeling. Although, the Vikings win the turnover battle more than not, even their rush defense was left quite vulnerable by Detroit (178 yards in Week 18).
No one is suggesting the Rams will run lights out here. However, Kyren Williams is hardly a slouch. He wound up with almost 1,300 yards on 316 carries. The average is not great but the workhorse back gains yards in the red zone. Minnesota has shown vulnerability there too in the past several weeks. That ranking dropped from the Top 10 to 18th. However, the focus will arguably be on the pass setting up any running for both teams.
Matthew Stafford wants to get to Detroit any way he can. Stafford is flanked by Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. The duo wreaked havoc in the Week 8 win where the Rams won 30-20. Stafford only netted 279 passing yards but the receivers were all over the field. Then, there is Minnesota. Darnold needs to create space which may mean more shotgun formations. Again, Aaron Jones is a good running back but these teams predicate the pass before the run.
This game features plenty of grey areas. Can Stafford and the receivers turn the switch on after a week off? Can Darnold and Jefferson find holes in the Rams' secondary? Los Angeles and their Front Seven ranks a little better here and could be the difference on Monday night.
About Those Wildfires
Second, Vikings vs Rams bets take a backseat to those wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Football does not seem quite as important when areas of Los Angeles County are in complete rubble. This is on a scale that cannot be imagined. Understandably, in this backdrop, an NFL playoff game could not be played in Southern California.
Late on Thursday, the decision was made by the NFL and the powers that be to move the game to Glendale, Arizona. Hey, State Farm Stadium has hosted a few major games in its time including Super Bowls, College Football Bowls, etc. More than likely, the roof will not have to be retracted on Monday night. Honestly, it makes the most sense given the conditions in the Los Angeles County area. Los Angeles plays in the stadium once every season.
One of the big things here is Minnesota may be less used to the conditions than Los Angeles. No one truly knows. However, Matthew Stafford does know the Vikings' defense well. His day with the Lions and experience serve him well in this spot and maybe this spot only. Stafford has two of the better receivers in the league that find spaces in coverage. Add in Demarcus Robinson, who can get open deep and the problems could mount for Minnesota.
Again, several options and props exist with the Los Angeles quarterback. One is the Over 1.5 touchdowns at -115, another is the 250+ passing yards at +125. The completion prop projects to stay around 22.5 and could be in play as well. Stafford went 25-for-34 in meeting number one. At OSB, we like the passing yards.
The Last Monday Night Football Game
Finally, the Vikings vs Rams bets understand that this is the last Monday night football game of the season. From here on out, the games are played on Saturdays and Sundays only. This Monday night part of the betting campaign has been a pretty solid one. Spanning the props, spreads, and totals proved to be quite the learning experience. Every season is unique in its own way even with patterns that do establish themselves.
Something that will be fun to see is what trends come forth in the postseason. A weekend of wall-to-wall NFL postseason hits differently in January. As always, is there that one for the road prediction?
At OSB, that answer is yes. The opening quarter moneyline for Los Angeles is +105 on BetOnline. Expect others to stay around that number.
