Are the Kansas City Chiefs going to destroy the New York Jets in Week 4?

Life without Aaron Rodgers has been brutal for the New York Jets. And, well, it’s not going to get any better in Week 4The NFL schedule-makers have them facing off against the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, October 1, at 8:20 p.m. eastern standard time, on the field at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. To the surprise of absolutely no one, the latest online NFL betting odds heavily favor the Chiefs:

That gives the best NFL online betting sites more than enough time to make changes ahead of opening kickoff on Sunday night.

To that end, we would expect to see movement here—perhaps for reasons you might not have foreseen. We’ll get into that when talking about the best point spread for Jets vs. Chiefs. With that in mind, let’s get into some NFL Week 4 predictions!

Let’s Be Honest: The New York Jets Don’t Stand a Chance Against the Kansas City Chiefs

Some people were a little concerned after the Chiefs lost to the Detroit Lions in Week 1. But that letdown came without superstar tight end Travis Kelce. Kansas City has looked a lot more like, well, Kansas City since he returned in Week 2.

Maybe that’s an overstatement. The Chiefs only mustered 17 points in their Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, they proceeded to torch the Chicago Bears for 41 points in Week 3, including 34 points in the first half. They probably could have scored more if they wanted to keep their foot on the gas.

Regardless of how you feel about whether the Chiefs remain top-tier Super Bowl contenders, you can’t deny that it’s almost impossible to envision them losing to this Jets team. After managing to score 30 points against the Dallas Cowboys without Aaron Rodgers in Week 2, they cobbled together just 10 points against the New England Patriots in Week 3. Indeed, the Jets’ defense has done their darndest to keep things close. But it’s very clear that the offense with Zach Wilson under center doesn’t have the juice to consistently put points on the board.

The performance of New York’s offensive line only makes everything exponentially worse. They aren’t doing a good enough time providing Wilson with enough time to make decisions. Of course, going up against the defenses of Buffalo, Dallas and New England in consecutive weeks verges on unfair. The Chiefs don’t generate nearly as much pressure on opposing cornerbacks.

Still, this comes as a tiny consolation to the larger picture. The Jets were once factors in 2023 betting on the Super Bowl. They now look like they’ll be lucky to win five games.

Is the Point Spread for Kansas City Being Inflated by Taylor Swift Fans?

Don’t laugh. This is a serious question. But first, let’s look at the latest NFL point spread betting odds for Chiefs vs. Jets:

  • Kansas City Chiefs, -9.5 (-112)
  • New York Jets, +9.5 (-108)

Travis Kelce is rumored to be dating global pop sensation Taylor Swift. She even attended the Chiefs’ victory over the Bears in Week 3. Her fans have responded in kind. Kelce’s jersey sales have skyrocketed 400 percent; he now has the best selling jersey in the NFL. He also saw his social media following increase by over 300,000 people.

Some analysts have speculated this could also be the driving force behind Kansas City opening as nearly double-digit favorites. We’re skeptical. The subset of Taylor Swift fans who also happen to bet on the NFL doesn’t feel like it’d be particularly large. Buying his jersey because you’re a huge Swift fan is one thing; wading into sports betting waters is something entirely different.

Should we trust the Chiefs to cover this line? We’re more doubtful than we’d like to be. They had a tough time against Jacksonville’s defense in Week 4. Facing New York’s front seven will not be a picnic. Covering double-digit-ish spreads on the road is also tough. But the Jets don’t necessarily have the offensive firepower to score more than 10 points on the Chiefs defense. That alone gives us confidence in a Kansas City blowout.

OSB Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs, -9.5 (-112)

How Many Points Can the Jets Offense Score on the Chiefs Defense?

Here are the latest NFL over/under betting odds for Jets vs. Chiefs:

  • Over 43 (-110)
  • Under 43 (-110)

Truth be told, we’re not really sure how to feel about this over/under. The Chiefs offense could easily light up the Jets for 30-plus points. But New York’s defense prides itself on turning games into a slog, and we’ve already seen Kansas City struggle a couple of times this year under those circumstances.

And for what it’s worth, none of the Jets’ first three games have finished with a final score greater than 40 points. That’s not necessarily telltale, but they haven’t exactly faced pushover offenses, either. New York held Buffalo to 22 points in Week 1.

On the flip side, we have the Chiefs winning by 10-plus points. Is that likely to happen if the final score comes in under 43 points? Given that the Jets offense has totaled just 36 points all season, we have zero issue saying yes.

OSB Prediction: Under 43 (-110)
