OSB Dolphins Make Jets Pay On Sunday

The AFC East centers itself here at Online Sports Betting. Week 14 of the National Football League digs into an old rivalry between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. The Jets and Dolphins have not had the best of 2024 seasons. Granted, the Tua Tagovailoa injury early hurt Miami but the Jets continue to hurt everyone. Anyway, Miami is never bad in December while others play in the snow and cold. The Jets vs Dolphins bets preview a matchup of two underachieving teams.

  • What? NFL 2024/2025 Week Fourteen - New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins
  • Where? Hard Rock Stadium - Miami Gardens, Florida
  • When? Sunday December 8th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS

Week 14 previews keep on keeping on. One of the biggest things is the avalanche of sporting events in December. Teams who will be off this week include New England, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Washington, Denver, and Houston. Once again, the playoff teams are probably welcoming the bye week at this point. One might not believe this but even seemingly lesser games can produce exciting results.

Jets vs Dolphins Bets Searching For Wins

Jets vs Dolphins bets start searching for wins. Unfortunately, bettors get slammed between a rock and a hard place in this game. Miami has faint hopes of making the playoffs while the New York Jets have little or nothing to play for. The problem is one never quite knows when the Jets will decide to show up. At 3-9, New York can significantly control their fate when it comes to their draft position. Now, the Jets play the Dolphins twice over the final five weeks of the NFL season.

The funniest thing is that both defenses rank pretty much in the middle of the pack when it comes to the NFL rankings. Points wise Miami is 14th and New York is 15th. When teams implode like New York has, the defense eventually suffers. Look at the last two games as New York has given up a total of 54 points.

Like Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, Tua Tagovailoa is just as tough to figure out. For the Dolphins signal-caller, it is more his surrounding cast. Miami has three receivers with 600 yards or more but a combined 10 touchdowns. DeVon Achane has six receiving scores and three on the ground with 1,005 yards from scrimmage. Tagovailoa completes 74.5% of his passes but so many are of the 10 yards or less variety in terms of depth.

Tagovailoa has to be able to throw down the field more. If he can get the time, the Jets secondary has regressed over the past several weeks. It may allow the Dolphins a chance to pull away and cover on Sunday afternoon. Climbing up to 6.5 points is easier and offers a bit better return.

Propping This Game Up

Next, Jets vs Dolphins bets are fixed on propping this game up. Games are always nice when they are played in South Florida. December weather in Miami is often way more balmy than other climbs err places. Sunday will be no exception. Shorts weather will be on the menu and that is never bad. The Jets do one thing poorly on defense and that is giving up touchdowns on the ground. Considering how often teams run on them, maybe that is not as much of a surprise.

Miami wants to run the ball a little more while using their short-passing game to set up ambitions downfield. Again, this is where De'Von Achane comes in. One of the bigger player props is the obvious anytime touchdown. That number rests around -170 to -180 currently. Achane remains a safe pick to score at least once on Sunday. How about 2+ touchdowns? Hey, the running back is in the +300 to +325 range. Miami's offense feels a little more funneled toward Achane honestly.

Also, more points keep inches along as a trendy possibility. Now, the Miami Dolphins are at +105 via BetOnline to get 27+ points against the Jets on Sunday. That is the target number against a New York team yielding more and more points. The Jets just do not turn the ball over on defense enough and teams have figured this out.

Again, we like the idea of a speedy running back like Achane to cut through the grassy turf and score often on Sunday.

What Other Wagers Are On The Docket

Okay, the Jets vs Dolphins wonder what other wagers are on the docket. Some have looked to threading the needle with both teams scoring under 30 points. That has slipped down to -140 on some sportsbooks. It is tough sometimes to have an objective mind with these things. That is especially true when both teams have bitterly disappointed most of the season. Look at the early season Tyreek Hill projections along with Jaylen Waddle. The yards are not awful but the touchdowns are.

Anyway, it is hard to figure out what Jets offense will come out on Sunday. The past two games have been better but not from a yards standpoint. Miami tends to give up more passing yards than most teams of late. With a lower bar, the Aaron Rodgers passing yards prop is another one to take a second look at. In the meantime, as tempting as some drive outcomes are, there is that backup plan.

Both teams to score less than 30 points feels like the safest play on the board for this Sunday afternoon game.
