Will the Baltimore Ravens beat the Los Angeles Ram in Week 14?

Have the New York Giants found their quarterback of the future in Tommy DeVito? It’s a question analysts have started posing in the wake of Daniel Jones’ season-ending knee injury. Every game since has provided valuable information. New York’s Week 17 date with the Los Angeles Rams will be no different.

Here are all the necessary details you need in advance of opening kick-off:

  • What: New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Rams
  • Date: Sunday, December 31, 2023
  • Time: 1 p.m. eastern standard time
  • Where: MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey
  • Point Spread: Rams (-5.5), New York Giants (+5.5)

Figuring out the stakes of this game for Los Angeles will be difficult. They have a very outside chance of making the playoffs entering Week 15. It’s unclear whether they’ll still be alive in Week 17. That matters when determining whether their best players will take the field.

For what it’s worth, the latest NFL online betting odds have the Rams as favorite to beat the Giants:

Please remember to double-check these online NFL betting odds until you actually submit your wager. Our Giants vs. Rams betting odds are accurate entering Wednesday, December 13. That gives the best NFL online betting sites plenty of time to make adjustments leading into opening kick-off on December 31.

Make no mistake, you should expect movement across all Rams vs. Giants betting lines. The best football betting sites already have the moneyline, point spread and over/under live, but they will react to changes in team records and gambling markets over the next couple of weeks.

Whether the Rams still have viable odds to make the playoffs will factor in here, as well. The dynamic of this game changes a great deal if they don’t have anything to chase and decide to bench key players such as Matthew Stafford.

Is the Giants’ recent resurgence for real? And is it owed to Tommy DeVito or something else? And above all, which bets should you place on Los Angeles vs. New York? Let’s get into it all.

Would a Win Over the Rams Enable Tommy DeVito to Seize New York Giants QB1 Responsibilities from Daniel Jones?

Though the Rams are not quite a juggernaut, they would represent the best team that the Giants have beaten during their late-season ascent. Rattling off three straight victories against the Washington Commanders, Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots is encouraging, but it’s not everything.

New York needs to upend more quality opponents to believe they’ve turned a corner. Maybe they send a message with a Week 16 win against the Philadelphia Eagles. But we’re inclined to bet against it.

Similarly, we’re inclined to pick against them in Week 17, too. DeVito has been fairly accurate under center, completing 65.9 percent of his passes. But the Giants offense has not exactly destroyed world-beating defenses during his tenure.

Of course, the Rams’ own defense isn’t what it used to be. They are 20th in points allowed per game and not forcing a ton of turnovers. They are also 26th in sack percentage, so DeVito should have plenty of time to make decisions after the snap.

Still, Los Angeles’ offense, at full strength, will be a problem for New York’s defense. The Giants have specialized in getting stops over their past few games. But the Rams are averaging nearly 35 points over their past three contests. And two of those games came against elite defenses in the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. This is a matchup Los Angeles should win.

OSB Prediction: Los Angeles Rams (-166)

Even If They Lose, New York Could Keep Things Interesting Against the Rams

New York’s recent uptick in overall performance has not dissuaded oddsmakers from billing them as heavy home underdogs. The latest NFL Week 17 point spread betting lines have them getting almost a touchdown:

  • Los Angeles Rams, -5.5 (-110)
  • New York Giants, +5.5 (-110)

This decision would be easier if the Rams were favored by a touchdown. We’re borderline leading toward the Giants with the current line.

Ultimately, we will stick with that inkling. Like we said, Los Angeles isn’t getting to opposing quarterbacks that often. And on top of that, we need to give credit to New York’s defense. They are surrendering just 16 points over their past three outings. What’s more, the Giants have given up just 12.3 points through their last four home contests.

OSB Prediction: New York Giants, +5.5 (-110)

We’re About to Find Out Just How Much the Giants Offense Has Improved…If At All

Though Tommy DeVito has been a clear upgrade over Daniel Jones, the Giants offense has not exactly set the world on fire. Then again, they have been able to run up the score against weaker defenses. And Los Angeles has nothing if not underachieved on that side of the field. Not surprisingly, the latest NFL over/under betting odds land smack dab in the middle of Week 17 scoring totals:

  • Over 45 (-110)
  • Under 45 (-110)

Just a few weeks ago, we would have smashed the “under” on any Giants game with a scoring total north of 40. Now, however, we’re not so sure. In three outings with DeVito as the starting quarterback, New York is averaging almost 22 points per game. That’s not incredible by any means. But it’s worlds better than they were doing with Jones.

Whether DeVito is the QB of the future remains debatable. The Giants signed Jones to a massive extension over the offseason. They’re invested in him. For this season specifically, though, DeVito arms them with accuracy and strength that can help move the chains. When coupled with how well the Rams are scoring lately, we find ourselves going with the “over.”

OSB Prediction: Over 45 (-110)
