Now, about the Eagles vs. Steelers matchup. Many are wondering whether Philadelphia is, indeed, the best team in the NFL or if they've merely capitalized on a favorable schedule. We're here to investigate the big-picture implications. But we've also got Week 8 NFL picks to make. So, let's get to it.

The Philadelphia Eagles are a Moneyline Locks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Rolling with the Eagles here is a no-brainer. They are well-rested and have shown they'll dominate against squads with inferior records and lackluster defenses.

Of course, the Steelers have found some success defending the run. They are sixth in net yards allowed per attempt on the ground. But while Philly is heavily reliant on the ground game, they aren't trying to grind out huge plays. The Eagles are first in total rushing attempts yet 23rd in yards gained per each of those attempts. Their recipe involves getting past the first-down marker bit-by-bit and sprinkling in some passing for good measure.

This mode of attack won't bode well for the Steelers—particularly on the road. And this says nothing of the Eagles' defense, which might just be the best in the NFL. Philadelphia ranks second in net yards allowed per passing attempt and second in interceptions forced. They should have a field day against a Pittsburgh offense that ranks inside the bottom four of turnovers committed.

Do the Eagles have the Offense Necessary to Cover the Spread Against the Steelers?

Here are the latest NFL Week 8 point spread betting odds for Eagles vs. Steelers:

  • Philadelphia Eagles, -10.5 (-110)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers, +10.5 (-110)

Determining the spread pick here is much harder than the moneyline prediction. A 10.5-point gap is a lot. And we're not quite sure the Eagles offense has it in them.

Most of Philadelphia's victories this season have come by fewer than 10 points. They are not a passing machine looking to drive up the score. Jalen Hurts oversees a heavy mix of running and clock control. If they go up by two touchdowns early, this is a team that might play it safe the rest of the way, allowing Pittsburgh to chip away at their lead.

It also doesn't help that both the Eagles and Steelers offenses are headlined by a bunch of youngsters. This inherently drives up the variability of their performances. That could mean there's a better-than-average chance they hang within a touchdown of one another.

Then again, maybe we're overthinking this. The Steelers offense has scored more than 20 points just once this season and topped more than 10 points just once in the past three weeks. Philadelphia can absolutely outpace this squad by two full scores.

OSB Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles, -10.5 (-110)

This NFL Week 8 Matchup is an Incredibly Difficult Over/Under Bet

Here are the latest NFL Week 8 over/under betting odds for Eagles vs. Steelers:

  • Over 43.5 (-110)
  • Under 43.5 (-110)

We find ourselves most drawn to the Steelers vs. Eagles under entering Week 8. Our confidence level isn't absurdly high, but we feel this is more than a coin-toss proposition.

Pittsburgh, in particular, has been a terrible over bet this season. They are 2-5 against those lines. And now they're going up against the best defense in the league. A large part of us will be shocked if they eclipse the 15-point benchmark.

Perhaps Philadelphia has the firepower to drum up the score on their own, but we're betting Pittsburgh's stout rushing defense holds up. And if the Steelers limit the Eagles to under 27 points, this game will be hard-pressed to touch the over.

OSB Prediction: Under 43.5 (-110)
