As we enter the home stretch of the 2022 NFL season, oddsmakers seem to think the surprisingly frisky Seattle Seahawks have come back down to Earth. And that's great news for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes and company will face Seattle on Saturday, December 24, in hopes of bagging their 12th victory of the season. Oddsmakers have pegged them as heavy favorites. But with the AFC West division already sewn up, could the Chiefs be caught napping in Week 16?

Do the Kansas City Chiefs Still Have Something to Play for in Week 16?
Expecting to Chiefs to coast the rest of the season would be a mistake. And yet, we understand if that's what you're doing anyway.
Kansas City almost lost to the league-worst Houston Texans in Week 15. It took some late-game heroics to bag the 30-24 victory and clinch the AFC West. For the most part, in fact, analysts came away from the matchup wondering more about the Chiefs' defense, which has now coughed up more than 26 points per game over the past three weeks against overwhelmingly mediocre to bad offenses.
Some level of concern is fair. Just don't get carried away. The Chiefs are 5-1 at home on the season, and for as much as their defense struggles, their offense is a virtual lock to flirt with or surpass 30 points even during off-weeks.
Heck, eclipsing the 30-point benchmark against Seattle feels like a given. The Seahawks are 29th in points allowed per game and struggled even more to get stops on the road before this month.
OSB Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs (-460)
Oddsmakers are Getting Ahead of Themselves with the Chiefs vs. Seahawks Point Spread
Below you can see the latest NFL point spread betting odds for Chiefs vs. Seahawks in Week 16:
- Kansas City Chiefs, -10 (-110)
- Seattle Seahawks, +10 (-110)
This feels like an instance in which the spread is disconnected from reality. Should the Chiefs be heavy favorites? Absolutely. But by 10 points? Not so much.
Kansas City is now 4-9 against the spread on the season, and it has not fared particularly well against double-digit point spreads. This seems more like an overreaction to the betting public initially investing in the team that's more of a known commodity. That happens a lot in the NFL. It's why a flagship team like the Dallas Cowboys will always have inflated Super Bowl odds. They're too popular.
More than that, the Seahawks have actually been good this year. Playing .500 football is big-time when you're supposed to be rebuilding. And despite Seattle's struggles to put points on the board the past two weeks, they're still seventh in points scored per game on the year.
Picking the Chiefs to cover would interest us more if this spread sat around 6.5 points. The fact that it checks in at 10 points, though, is prohibitive.
OSB Prediction: Seattle Seahawks, +10 (-110)
The Over/Under for Kansas City vs. Seattle Hinges on the Seahawks Offense
Here are the latest NFL over/under betting odds for Seahawks vs. Chiefs:
- Over 48.5 (-110)
- Under 48.5 (-110)
Once we pencil in the Chiefs for 28 to 30 points, this becomes a matter of Seattle holding up their end of the bargain. And we think that's exactly what they'll do.
Scoring just 13 points against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 15 is not a red flag. The Niners have perhaps the NFL's best defense. The Chiefs, on the other hand, are far from the best defensive squad around. They just allowed 27 and 28 points, respectively, to a pair of middling offenses in Denver and Cincinnati.
To be fair, the Chiefs do have the defensive playmakers necessary to make life difficult on quarterbacks who largely operate from the pocket. They may be able to pick off Geno Smith a time or two. But Smith is also more mobile than most quarterbacks, and rollouts have given the Chiefs a bunch of trouble this year. This should be a bounce-back game for Seattle's offense even if the team doesn't fare well against Kansas City overall.
OSB Prediction: Over 48.5 (-110)
