Both the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants profile as pretenders.

A lot will be at stake when the Green Bay Packers face off against the New York Giants on Sunday, October 9, at 9:30 a.m. EST.

As of right now, through four weeks of action, many of the best online betting sites for the NFL have pegged both teams as pretenders. New York and Green Bay may each be 3-1 and currently competing for first place in their respective divisions, but their victories have been collectively unimpressive. And if either one of them hopes to shirk that designation soon, they absolutely need a win in Week 5.

But which side is better suited to get it? Do we roll with the more established presence of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay? Or do we perhaps bet on the improvement we're seeing from Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and New York's defense? That's what we're here to figure out. In doing so, we will cover every aspect of Green Bay Packers vs. New York Giants picks: the moneyline, the point spread and the over/under.

First, however, let's have a look at all the latest betting odds for the NFL entering Week 5. Please note that while we're focusing on Packers vs. Giants predictions in this space, we have Week 5 NFL odds for every game, courtesy of Bovada:

The Green Bay Packers will Beat the New York Giants, But Just Barely

Bettors should note that this contest is taking place in London, so it's effectively an away game for both the Giants and Packers. Given that both teams played last Sunday, though, it's tough to imagine one having an edge over the other because of the travel. Both New York and Green Bay journeyed across the pond on the same day.

The Packers checking in as an ultra-heavy favorite actually surprised us. Green Bay may have won three straight, including victories over Tampa Bay and New England, but their offense has teetered on the edge of mediocrity all year.

Entering Week 5, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are 22nd in points scored—and they've yet to top 27 points in a single game. They have also struggled against defenses that know how to make plays with their front seven.

This could prove problematic against a Giants squad that ranks first in recovered fumbles and eighth in passing yards allowed. New York has forced teams to rely on their ground game with aggressive play-calling, and if they can take the ball out of Aaron Rodgers' hands, it doesn't spell good news for Green Bay.

Still, New York's offense is all over the place. Quarterback Daniel Jones remains inconsistent, and running back Saquon Barkley will have trouble finding seems against the Packers' defensive line. Green Bay should win this one.

OSB Prediction: Green Bay Packers (-355)

Are the New York Giants a Better Point Spread Bet Than the Green Bay Packers?

Here are the current NFL point spread betting odds for Packers vs. Giants:

  • Green Packers, -7.5 (-110)
  • New York Giants, +7.5 (-110)

Despite picking the Green Bay Packers to win, we're not quite sold on their point spread.

Sure, the Giants offense is lackluster enough to envision them losing by more than a touchdown. But Green Bay's own offense hasn't been dangerous enough to give them that type of cushion.

Each of the Packers' past two victories have come by a combined five points, and their lone blowout of the season came versus the lowly Chicago Bears. New York should be able to remain within striking distance throughout this one.

OSB Prediction: New York Giants, +7.5 (-110)

This Week 5 NFL Game is Primed to Hit the Thunder

Here are the current NFL over/under betting odds for the Giants vs. Packers:

  • Over 41.5 (-106)
  • Under 41.5 (-114)

At first glance, this line looks a little low. But then you realize the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants don't even combine to average 38 points per game.

Maybe you think Green Bay will find their groove in the passing game. That's fine. But it's not like they're going up against a paper tiger defense. The Giants have so far looked built to stymie the passing game, which is supposed to be the Packers' biggest strength.

Couple this with the time difference and travel both teams endure by playing in London, and we almost expect this game to be a slog. Don't be shocked if both teams fail to eclipse the 20-point plateau, because it's a distinct possibility.

OSB Prediction: Under 41.5 (-106)
