The 2022 football season may still be a few months away, but the best sites for NFL betting are already releasing lines in all the major categories. From odds on NFL win totals to betting odds on the Super Bowl, the futures market is alive with opportunity. And this includes betting odds to win the 2022 NFL MVP award, which just so happens to be the focus of our latest batch of football picks. With all the information we've jam-packed into each one, you'll have no trouble finding the best NFL betting sites for the 2022 season.
Should Justin Herbert or Josh Allen be Betting Favorite to Win NFL MVP?
Justin Herbert (+800) initially opened as a top-six MVP favorite when early odds were released in the spring. He has since moved up to second place, just behind the leader in Josh Allen (+600).
Most will balk at the Justin Herbert odds. Allen, after all, is the more entrenched star and quarterbacking a Buffalo Bills team many sportsbooks have favored to win the Super Bowl. But we're lower on the Bills than the consensus. They have a tougher division to navigate than meets the eye. The New York Jets still stink, but both the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins figure to make life difficult in the AFC East.
More than that, we're just incredibly high on Herbert. Through two seasons, he has racked up more than 9,000 passing yards, including a 5,000-yard campaign as a sophomore last year. No other quarterback in NFL history has done the same. If we're being brutally honest, Herbert has a better chance of becoming the face for the next wave of superstar QBs than Allen.
Can Aaron Rodgers Repeat as NFL MVP?
Aaron Rodgers (+1200) sticking with the Green Bay Packers is a welcomed development for an organization that lost its top receiver over the offseason. You can count the number of QBs better than Rodgers on one hand, mostly because you won't need to count past one or two.
Still, it can be tough to buy into a repeat MVP campaign. Back-to-back MVPs are not only impossibly hard to win, but Rodgers is in his mid-30s and headlining a team that's arming him with even fewer offensive weapons than last season.
Oddsmakers have countered Green Bay's roster regression with a prospective 12-to-1 payout. That's enough value to get us thinking. But Rodgers is no doubt someone you should keep an eye on if you're not making a 2022 NFL MVP prediction right away.
Better NFL MVP Bet: Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady?
Tom Brady (+900) went from retiring to laying NFL MVP odds identical to those of Patrick Mahomes (+900), a superstar QB firmly in his prime. That's wild.
It also doesn't make a ton of sense, in our opinion. Mahomes should be the clearer favorite over the older Brady.
Linemakers appear to be heavily weighting Tyreek Hill's departure from the Kansas City Chiefs. We're not prepared to do the same. The Chiefs still have plenty of weapons around their cornerstone signal-caller, including superstar pass-catcher Travis Kelce, and Mahomes has always been the driving force behind the team's offensive success.
If anything, the stage is set for Mahomes to gain a ton of consideration for his second MVP award. Voters love a good narrative, and Mahomes is now tasked with steering the offense in the absence of its most dangerous receiver.
Why Does Joe Burrow Trail Justin Herbert and Josh Allen in NFL MVP Odds?
Joe Burrow (+1000) checks in as a top-five MVP candidate but still isn't currying as much favor as fellow youngsters Allen and Herbert. And full disclosure: We're not sure why.
Maybe it's because Burrow is technically a year behind Herbert in the developmental process after missing most of his rookie season with an injury. But he came back with a vengeance as a sophomore, displaying a certain cool and calm when managing offensive drives and making decisions under pressure.
This could say more about the Cincinnati Bengals than Burrow. MVP candidates need to hail from really good teams, and there are those who view the Bengals' deep postseason push last season as a flash in the plan. For our money, though, this is great value. Burrow accomplished a boatload as a sophomore coming back from injury without much help from his offensive line. Cincy has since beefed up the O-Line and the offensive playmakers around him, making Burrow a steal at 10-to-1.
2022 NFL MVP Prediction
And our 2022 NFL MVP prediction is...Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Given how well Herbert has played the past two years, a lack of team success is all that seems to stand in his way. The Chargers were mostly blah last season. But that figures to change this year.
Los Angeles added Kahlil Mack and J.C. Jackson to the fold, and most sportsbooks have already set their over/under at 10.5 wins. And if you believe the Chargers can get to 10 wins, you might as well invest in Justin Herbert MVP odds.
