2024 National Championship Futures
Team | |
---|---|
Georgia | +300 |
Alabama | +550 |
Ohio State | +700 |
Clemson | +900 |
LSU | +1200 |
Michigan | +1400 |
USC | +1400 |
Florida State | +1800 |
Notre Dame | +2800 |
Texas | +2800 |
Penn State | +3300 |
Washington | +3300 |
Oregon | +3500 |
Tennessee | +4400 |
TCU | +6600 |
You have the usual suspects in the top-10, with USC (+1400) jumping off the page with the return of Heisman-winner, QB Caleb Williams. Texas at +2800 is intriguing as well with Arch Manning potentially starting for the Longhorns. Oregon (+3500) could be the dark horse out West with Bo Nix running it back for another year in Eugene. TCU meanwhile, who lost in the National Championship last month, will lose their two best offensive weapons in Max Duggan and Quentin Johnston, which definitely gives the Horned Frogs a much different look.
Georgia (+300)
Surprise, surprise. The Bulldogs are leading the pack again and have the chance to become a legitimate dynasty with another National Championship next January. However, this roster is about to be a lot different. They will lose numerous players to the pros, including long-time QB Stetson Bennett and projected top pick, Jalen Carter. However, Georgia did finish with the second-best recruiting class in the nation behind Bama, signing 26 players in total. That list consists of a solid mix of offensive and defensive players. At quarterback, Carson Beck is expected to take the reins. He's a four-star recruit who was in the same class as the likes of Bryce Young and CJ Stroud. Despite limited experience at the college level, he's got a very good support system.
Alabama (+550)
It feels practically impossible to replace a signal-caller like Bryce Young, who electrified for the Tide every single time he stepped on the field. Plus, they will have two new coordinators after Bill O'Brien left for the NFL and Pete Golding took a job at Ole Miss. That being said, Alabama has the best recruiting class in the country. In other words, there is no shortage of talent coming to Tuscaloosa. Jalen Milroe is the most logical choice to step in for Young, who got some playing time in 2022. He's a big guy with a good arm and has the ability to also create havoc on the ground. It would be foolish to underestimate Nick Saban and Bama. After all, this program is still a powerhouse in the college football world.
Ohio State (+700)
CJ Stroud might be the best QB to get drafted in April and his absence will definitely be felt at Ohio State after putting up videogame numbers season after season. That means it's up to Kyle McCord and Devin Brown to battle it out for the starting job. The Buckeyes have also lost Jaxon Smith-Njigba to the NFL, but he was injured a lot last season. Ryan Day has the third-best recruiting class behind their SEC rivals above, however, plus WR Marvin Harrison Jr is coming back. So are running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams. Whether it's McCord or Brown under center, both guys have no shortage of weapons around them.
Final Picks
There are a few other possible contenders in the College Football Championship futures such as Michigan, USC, and potentially Oregon. However, there are two teams I'm eyeing right now: Ohio State and Alabama. The Buckeyes have so much talent returning to Columbus offensively, which should play a key part. Then with the Crimson Tide, their recruiting class is far too good to look past. Expect a bounce-back campaign.
