LSU vs Ole Miss Odds
The Tigers are the favorite at -140 for an implied win probability of 58.33%. The Rebels come back at +120. LSU is also laying just 2.5 points on the spread. The total in points is set at 67.5. This rivalry is known as the Magnolia Bowl and the Tigers lead all-time 63-41-4. LSU has won six of the last seven meetings, including a dominant 45-20 victory in Baton Rouge last October.
LSU Thriving
What a great start for the Tigers. Aside from their shocking loss to Florida State in Week 1, Brian Kelly's team has looked excellent, taking down Grambling State, Mississippi State, and Arkansas. But, the game against the Razorbacks wasn't the most convincing, winning by just three points.
But despite the defense giving up far more points than desired, you cannot ignore how lethal this LSU passing offense is. Jayden Daniels is killing the competition as he completed 20 of 29 passes for 320 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception. He's now thrown for nearly 1,300 yards, 12 TDs, and just two picks while completing 72.6% of his passes. On the ground, Daniels has also run for 4.3 yards per carry. A true dual-threat quarterback.
Offense is the clear strength for LSU. They rank 10th in points, seventh in total yards, 11th in passing yards, and seventh on third down conversation percentage. Daniels' favorite target has been Malik Nabers. The wideout has reeled in 32 catches for 523 yards and five scores. He torched Arkansas downfield with eight catches and two TDs. There is zero doubt the Tigers attack will show up and produce. It simply comes down to the defense. Ole Miss was impressive in weeks prior to the Alabama loss and will be ready to bounce back on home turf. If LSU can slow down Jaxson Dart and Co., a win is very much possible.
Ole Miss Need a Win
Alabama is not the same dominant force in 2023. There's no clear choice at QB and they simply don't scare opponents like in past seasons. That's why Week 4 looked like a clear opportunity for Ole Miss to upset the Crimson Tide but instead, they fell flat on their faces, scoring a mere 10 points. That's put immense pressure on head coach Lane Kiffin, who needs a win badly on Saturday in Oxford.
Offensively, there's been some serious promise. Dart is great at times but can also struggle. For example, he completed 20 of 35 passes for 244 yards and no touchdowns against the Bama defense, who also sacked him five times. It was a tough night. Facing far less talented defense in Week 5, Dart has a chance to bounce back and prove that he's capable of leading the Rebels to a win. It also appears converting third downs is extremely important for Ole Miss. When they do keep the chains moving, there's success. When they don't, things fall apart. Something to watch.
Meanwhile, the Rebels run defense is quite solid, which will be important when it comes to slowing down Daniels and his weapons. Putting pressure on him is the only way to do it. Oh, running back Quinshon Judkin also needs to get it going after a slow start. He's a massive piece of this Ole Miss offense and has the ability to break a game wide open. Putting the ball in his hands will be key.
LSU vs Ole Miss Picks
It's clear that LSU has the upper hand in recent memory and I do think that will be the case again on Saturday. Both offenses are talented, but Daniels and Co. are just far more consistent. Expect the Tigers to roll into Oxford and snatch a big win to help them stay at the top of the SEC West.
