Alabama vs Texas A&M Odds
By no surprise, Alabama is the favorite, but not by much. They sit at -130 moneyline odds while A&M comes back at +110. The Tide are laying just 2.5 points on the spread, though. The total is points is set at 49. Bama has won nine of the last 10 against the Aggies but did lose on their last visit to College Station in 2021.
Improvement For Alabama
There's been a lot of question marks around Alabama since their Week 2 loss to Texas, which caught many by surprise. But, they've improved a ton in recent weeks. Nick Saban's squad has won three in a row, taking down South Florida, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. It does also appear their quarterback conundrum is decided for the time being, with Jalen Milroe playing well as of late.
Milroe completed 10 of 12 passes for 164 yards in the win on Saturday, which aren't exactly huge numbers. However, he killed the Bulldogs defense on the ground, rushing for 6.3 yards per carry on 11 rushes and two touchdowns. He is truly a fantastic runner. Overall, Bama had 193 rushing yards. The Crimson Tide defense was solid once again as well, allowing just 17 points. Since the Texas defeat, they haven't given up any more than that in a single game.
While the Aggies defense is above average, they're beatable. Alabama has the weapons to do damage, especially on the ground. Expect Milroe and Jase McLellan to play a key part in the output Saturday in College Station. Defensively, the Tide will show up as they always do and will be up against Max Johnson, the new QB1 for Texas A&M.
Max Johnson Time For Aggies
Speaking of Johnson, it's now his time to shine after Conner Weigman was ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury. Thankfully, Johnson has no shortage of starter experience from his days in Baton Rouge with LSU so there shouldn't be too much of an adjustment for Jimbo Fisher's team. A&M are also riding a three-game winning streak just like their Week 6 opponents, notching victories over Louisiana-Monroe, Auburn, and Arkansas.
Johnson has done a respectable job since taking over under center, completing 37 of 59 passes for 436 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception. Against the Razorbacks, he was 17 for 28 for 210 yards, throwing for a pair of scores and also getting picked off once. Just like Milroe, Johnson is a respectable runner as he racked up 57 yards on nine carries versus Arkansas including a 32-yard run. While Texas A&M outplayed the Hogs in more ways than one, the clear strength was the run game.
The Aggies had a whopping 204 rushing yards to just 42 for Arkansas and a total of 414 yards. Perhaps there was some extra motivation considering they were playing at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Now even though Johnson is holding his own so far, this is a serious test on Saturday. This Bama defense isn't even allowing 300 yards per game and has managed to shut down every QB not named Quinn Ewers. Defensively for A&M, they are very good against the run and that's been the area where the Crimson Tide have thrived. Milroe could be forced to do a lot of damage downfield; something he hasn't done much yet. This may be a close game.
Alabama vs Texas A&M Picks
The winner takes control of first place in the SEC West. Although Milroe didn't play that well in this matchup last year in place of Bryce Young, I do expect him to do enough to help Alabama keep it rolling on Saturday. The moneyline looks to be the best bet.
