Ole Miss vs Alabama Odds
The Tide is a clear moneyline favorite with -260 odds but they're laying just seven points on the spread here. The Rebels come back at +220. The total is set at 55.5 points, which is fairly high.
Bama leads the all-time series 54-10-2 and has won seven meetings in a row against Ole Miss. They've covered in four of those six matchups, too.
Can Ole Miss Pull Off The Upset?
Despite Bama not looking as elite as in past years, this would still be considered an upset if Ole Miss managed to beat them on Saturday due to the sheer dominance from the Tide over the years against the Rebels. And to be honest, it could be possible. Ole Miss is absolutely thriving so far, ranking fourth in the nation in points with 52.7 per game and 12th in total yards. The passing game in particular has really looked solid, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Dart has completed 70% of his passes in three games for 601 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception. He played well against Georgia Tech but didn't have to do too much, completing 10 of 18 passes for 251 yards and one touchdown. The running game was the primary source of offense, accounting for a whopping 299 yards. Dart himself rushed for 136 yards on 14 carries while Ulysses Bentley also ran for 10.2 yards per carry. Quinshon Judkins actually struggled but you can expect him to bounce back against Bama. He always rises to the occasion when the stakes are highest.
Out wide, Dart has three fantastic weapons in Jordan Watkins, Dayton Wade, and Tre Harris while Judkins is also capable of serving as a threat as a pass-catcher. This Ole Miss offense could give the Alabama defense quite the fit. Defensively, the Rebels haven't been great, but Bama hasn't shown much yet, to be frank.
Bama Can't Afford Another Loss
We know that Nick Saban always manages to recruit the best talent each and every year after losing so many players to the NFL. Tyler Buchner came in to fight for the QB1 job but Saban announced that Jalen Milroe, who was Bryce Young's backup last year, will start in the conference opener. The Crimson Tide were shocked by Texas in Week 2 but did manage to bounce back last week, beating South Florida 17-3.
While the Bulls aren't much of a measuring stick, Bama was pretty efficient. Ty Simpson and Buchner played QB while Milroe got the day off. The two only attempted 23 passes but completed just 10 for no touchdowns. The run game was the clear bright spot. Roydell Williams erupted for 129 yards on 17 carries including a touchdown. Jase McClellan also ran for 74 yards.
The Tide really didn't have to do a lot offensively or defensively. Regardless, a win is a win. There just seems to be a different feel to this program though. They've always had an NFL-caliber quarterback under center and that is not the case at the moment. Milroe is about the best they got however and we'll see if he can step up against Ole Miss. Another loss here would almost certainly kill their chances of making the CFP Playoff. Realistically, it's hard to imagine them even making it. Perhaps they will improve as the campaign goes on. There's a real tough stretch ahead too, with Texas A&M and Mississippi State up next on the schedule. Time for Alabama to buckle down.
Ole Miss vs Alabama Picks
I really like how Ole Miss is playing. Dart is a versatile weapon and he has lots of help within this offense. Will they win? I don't know. But, I do expect it to be a one-possession game. Take the Rebels ATS.
