OSB Kansas Leads Way As Our Early Choice To Win National Title

There is a little over five weeks until this 2023-24 college basketball season! Teams finally will get back to practice. What does that mean? That's right. All sorts of "Midnight Madness" exhibitions will take place throughout October. At Online Sports Betting, we explore the betting landscape throughout the US, including Kansas. So, first, we look at 2024 College Basketball Future Bets featuring the Kansas Jayhawks as the favorite. Can they win it all? What other choices are there and what else can we find?

  • WHAT: 2023-24 NCAA Basketball Future Bets
  • WHEN: Monday, November 6th, 2023 until Monday, April 8th, 2024
  • WHERE: College campuses nationwide trying to get to Glendale, Arizona
  • WHY: The race for the national title will be on.

The bettors love speculating early but the idea was to give time to let things take their course. The future betting market gives us a good deal to ponder and some head scratchers as well. As always, betting on the NCAA College Men's basketball futures is challenging. After all, look at what happened to North Carolina last year. They did not even make the tournament. Here is a quick table for the October futures, courtesy of Bovada Online Sportsbook.

2024 College Basketball Future Bets Still Like Kansas

2024 College Basketball Future Bets still like Kansas. So, what happened between May and October? Honestly, that answer is almost zero. The Jayhawks barely moved. Not only did they remain the favorite, their number moved to +720 from +1000 on MyBookie. Even Bovada shortened down to +950. They were at +1200 several months ago. It does not seem like much of a shift, but the Bill Self team keeps catching the favor of pundits.

Despite that, not everyone is convinced of their national title aspirations. After all, Kansas never seemingly got going until it was too late last season. Everyone thought they would handle Arkansas in the second round of the tournament but lost by one point to the Razorbacks. With that, their chances to repeat were gone. This put the Jayhawks on a mission of sorts.

Not surprisingly, Kansas finished 28-8 and fourth overall in the Final AP Poll. Many think they could top that very same poll come November. Time will tell. One thing is for sure. Kansas will get a spotlight and even a bullseye planted firmly on their back all season. Teams are going to want to measure up to them. Experts firmly are convinced this Jayhawks team will easily in 30 games and cut down the nets in Arizona on April 8th, 2024.

Again, at Online Sports Betting, it is too early to worry about player chemistry. Instead, we focus on the numbers. One of our longer shot choices last year was UConn and sure enough, they came together to win the title convincingly. All we are saying is that Kansas represents the best option right now. Things can change.

2024 College Basketball Future Picks Like Head Scratchers

The 2024 College Basketball Future Picks like some head scratchers. Sometimes, there are numbers assigned to teams that do not make sense. One has to ask. Is there a glitch? Did someone mishit a digit or two? Questions get raised even when there are few or no answers.

With that in mind, a few candidates come to mind. One has to be St. John's. This was a team that went 18-15 last year and 7-13 in the Big East. They had tournament aspirations early but faltered late and lost in the second round of the Big East Tournament to Marquette. Mike Anderson was fired and Rick Pitino was promptly hired. It was that hire along with the assistants that did not create some buzz until later in the summer.

The Red Storm were as short as +2500 on BetOnline and then +8000 on MyBookie. Now, that's quite a spread. Bovada leaned a bit closer to BetOnline at +4000. It will be interesting to see what Pitino brings to the table. However, the pressure will be on. Purdue may be the other head scratcher. Yes, Zach Edey returns again, but this kind of gets to the point where we all were with Drew Timme. Purdue is as short as +1000 on BetOnline.

Again, Purdue could do very well in the Big Ten, but then fail early in the NCAA Tournament again. There appears to be little value in going down the well.

Another Consideration For 2024 College Basketball Future Bets?

So, what about another consideration for 2024 College Basketball Future Bets? The idea is what about a team like the UConn Huskies? The Huskies played a tournament style of basketball under Dan Hurley. Connecticut finished tenth in the Final AP poll, but topped the college basketball world when it mattered most. Now, the Huskies managed to win all six of their NCAA Tournament games by more than 13 points.

The UConn team is a Big East school that can tangle with the other conferences. Despite dropping that close game to Marquette before the tournament, they showed their mettle. Now, the Huskies are the hunted and that could be quite the challenge. Few believed Connecticut could win the National Championship. Even fewer think they can come anywhere close to repeating in 2023-24.

There is a this thought process that it cannot happen. Although, the Huskies started last year at +6000, this season they roll in at a mere +1800 on Bovada which still carries a little value. Finally, the +500 to reach the Final Four is not entirely unreasonable either. Most were offering +350 to +450 there.
