NASCAR Championship 2022 Bets

The top-level of NASCAR that competes for the Cup Series typically gets the lion's share of attention from bettors. However, don’t overlook the Xfinity and Truck Series, which is also rich in betting value. With all three nearing the halfway point of the racing season, now feels like an opportune time to make picks on who wins all three NASCAR championships.

Only Trucks are competing this weekend on June 18 at the Knoxville Raceway. Both NASCAR and Xfinity have a rare weekend off before returning on June 25 and 26, respectively. That timing makes this futures bet even more worth looking into.

NASCAR Cup Series Pick

Alright, let’s start with the “big dogs” at the top level. Before we make our Cup Series pick, let’s take a gander at the current NASCAR betting odds, as set by online bookies. Here are the top betting favorites in the field:

DriverBetUSBovada
Kyle Larson+500+500
Chase Elliott+550+550
Ross Chastain+650+650
Denny Hamlin+650+650
William Byron+750+750
Joey Logano+850+850
Ryan Blaney+850+850
Kyle Busch+850+850

Larson having the second-best odds feels too rich for us. Yes, he’s the reigning 2021 Cup champion, but he’s not really in the mix so far. With one win all year long, Larson is at 476 points, which ranks seventh overall. That’s well behind the likes of first-place Chase Elliott (536 points), plus Ross Chastain (520) and Kyle Busch (513) who follow in second and third, respectively.

The story of the NASCAR season so far (and for the rest of the season) is the Next Gen car. It’s been an adjustment for every driver and team, but we’re at this point in the season we’re tracks are starting to be repeated. Therefore, some of the guessing game that affected the first part of the season is removed.

The massive car changes have seemingly benefitted up-and-coming drivers as a slew of winners have been first-timers. That was highlighted by Daniel Suárez’s victory last weekend at the Sonoma road course. That makes four first-time winners so far in 2022. One of those is Chastain, who is our best bet to take the Cup Series.

The thing we love about Chastain is that he’s almost always in the “thick” of races. His seven top-5 finishes lead the entire circuit. Two of those have been outright wins. Chastain is on the ascend and we’re latching onto that jet pack, per se. He’s no fluke, folks, take a real hard look at Chastain in this futures wager.

NASCAR Xfinity Series Pick

Onto the “minor league” of NASCAR that features soon-to-be stars of the Cup Series. Let’s take a gander at the current lines to win the Xfinity Series:

DriverBetUSBovada
Ty Gibbs+250+250
Noah Gragson+350+350
Justin Allgaier+400+400
A.J. Allmendinger+500+500
Josh Berry+600+600
Sam Mayer+1200+1200

First thing is first, do the oddsmakers have something against A.J. Allmendinger or something? How is he as long as +500 to win out? Here’s a guy that very well could’ve won the 2021 title (Austin Cindric and him traded leads most of the way). Here’s a guy who’s currently atop the standings with 573 points off of two wins and seven top-5s. Here’s a guy who just won in Portland despite literally coming from last place.

Allmendinger is the real deal. And more than anything else, we love him at this current betting price. At the 5-to-1 odds you’re getting right now, he’s definitely worth throwing action on.

Ty Gibbs, the current betting favorite, certainly isn’t a bad choice either. He’s won seven races in the past two years, showing he has a real killer instinct — which is what makes or breaks champions come playoff time. A two-pronged bet on Allmendinger and Gibbs might be a smart betting strategy here. We really like both’s chances a lot the remainder of 2022.

NASCAR Truck Series Pick

Last but certainly not least, our pick to win in the Truck Series. Right now, it feels like a four-man dead heat for the title. The top-4 in the standings are as follows (in order): Ben Rhodes, Chandler Smith, Zane Smith, and John Hunter Nemechek. A meager 14 points separates first from fourth place as of this publish date.

Regular-season standings matter even more in the Truck Series because only the top-10 qualify for the postseason — that’s lower than Xfinity (12 drivers advance) and Cup Series (16). However, all three series value outright wins come playoff time with a winner-take-all finale deciding it once the postseason field is down to four drivers.

Speaking of wins, Zane Smith has three already this year. Him and Corey Heim are the lone drivers with multiple victories in 2022 — though, Heim is way back in 20th place and unlikely to qualify for the playoffs. Smith has a killer instinct that many other drivers don’t, which could pay huge dividends come postseason time. Zane is the driver to bet on at this point, by far.
