Ode To The Favorites
Can you believe that the 2024 MotoGP Texas Picks tilted to Marc Marquez of all people as the favorite. The last time Marquez won a MotoGP race was in 2021. However, one of his three wins that year was on this very track. One of the reasons there is much optimism and buzz with the Spaniard is he has looked much faster and technically sound on the Ducati. It still feels like betting on MotoGP Online could be considered a bit chaotic now.
We can see why the odds are there for Marquez but why not riders like Francesco Bagnaia or Jorge Martin. These two riders mostly dominated the 2023 season and are under way to doing so in 2024. Despite this, the books seem hellbent on creating some intrigue. Martin despite leading the points is merely +350 on BetOnline. That has to be a surprise. Bagnaia shortened a hair to +175 on Bovada.
Most of the time, rolling with the favorites is a recipe for success in MotoGP. Granted, that very well could pay off again on Sunday from Texas. COTA is a 20 turn, 5.513 kilometer track that is as technical as can be. Sure, speed is to be had. However, even Enea Bastianini (2022 winner) is getting a +650 number via BetOnline but +750 on Bovada. This is one of the few weeks where there are four pretty clear cut choices among the books.
All this is to say that the potential for something crazy to happen is possible. Weather conditions figure to favor guys like Bagnaia and Bastianini. However, one mistakes makes a difference on this course. Could even Marquez finally get a win? Absolutely. However, out of this group, Bagania is worth a shot.
2024 MotoGP Texas Picks Go Longer
The 2024 MotoGP Texas Picks go longer for the weekend. Get this, Alex Rins, a former multiple-time champion at Austin is +2200 on Bovada. Granted, the Yamaha was barely relevant last season. However, Rins can ride a motorbike like few can. Texas expects attention to detail and a great mastery of those technical sections and turns. The Spaniard possesses that ability to help that Yamaha bike.
However, the one rider who carries interest is still Pedro Acosta. Acosta riding the KTM bike has been fast all season. The young and yet to turn 20-year old comes off a podium finish in Portugal. A late bobble probably cost him the race but again, a third this early in his career could be a harbinger of things to come. Also at +2200 on Bovada, he is worth a second or third look.
It is hard to count Brad Binder out here at Texas. Binder has never won on the Austin track. However, he did finish fourth last week at Portugal. The KTM bike keeps advancing in leaps and bounds during the early portion of the 2024 season. Would anyone be surprised by even more improvement in Texas? Absolutely not.
The problem with 2024 MotoGP Texas Picks becomes trying to settle on one guy from this group. Former winners, new faces, and perennial competitors abound.
How Far Can We Go Off The Reservation?
This might be the most fun we get to have with this column. How far can we go off the reservation? After all, the 2024 MotoGP Texas Picks aim to dive a bit deeper. Could a Jack Miller from KTM at +6600 win this weekend? Miller did have a third in 2022 and was running well in 2023 before the dreaded DNF. Again, the fun part is going in different directions.
Even Fabio Quartararo is not a bad idea here. He finished third at Texas last year and the Yamaha was fast over the 20-lap distance. The second half of the race saw a different bike compared to the first half. Quartararo did not get close enough to overtake second, let alone first. However, the Yamaha has been better in testing and will have room for further upgrades. At +4000, the Frenchman and former World Champion is out there.
This feels like crazy talk but Quartararo has a real shot here. Taking that +4000 on Bovada is not all that crazy. Heck, few may see it coming. It was like when Luca Marina nearly won last year in Austin.
