If you're new to wagering on big-picture investments, check out our explainer on futures betting. To sum it up: Betting futures is just like betting on moneylines. In this case, though, you're trying to predict the winner of a season-long award rather than a singular race.

Another rule of thumb when betting on MotoGP futures? Make sure you are rechecking Riders World Championship odds on a regular basis. They will ebb and flow for each individual rider throughout the season.

And last but certainly not least, do yourself a favor and take some time to browse through our in-depth reviews of the top online sportsbooks. They will equip you with the information necessary to find your best MotoGP betting sites in 2022.

Should Marc Marquez Be Heavy Favorite to Win the 2022 MotoGP World Championship?

It should come as no mystery as to why Marc Marquez (+150) is such a heavy favorite to win the 2022 MotoGP World Championship.

Between 2013 and 2019, he won six of the seven titles, including four in succession. That's a stretch the fastest sport in the world has never seen before.

For those who find themselves concerned that he hasn't won either of the past two championships, we urge you to dig deeper. Marquez has spent the past two years injured or trying to come back from injury. It's fair to assume that if he had stayed healthy, he'd have at least one more MotoGP Riders Championship under his belt.

We get it if you're worried about him needing a grace period to find his bearings before returning to form. But he has returned from injuries previously without missing a beat, and even if he's only 70 percent of the rider he was before, no one else on the tour can touch his combination of speed and precision on two wheels.

Is Fabio Quartararo a Threat to Repeat as the MotoGP World Champion?

Fabio Quartararo (+200) took full advantage of Marquez's absence last season. He won five rounds and truly began separating himself from the rest of the field over the latter half of the schedule.

With Marquez back in the fold, Quartararo will never have as much breathing room. But the reigning champion is also a fringe favorite for a reason. He is an expert at maintaining leads he chisels out earlier in races, and he has done a much better job over the past couple of years at perfecting the angles of his turns and the overall performance of his torque.

Put another way: Even with Marquez returning to MotoGP, Quartararo remains a threat to win it all.

Who's the Better 2022 MotoGP Championship Bet: Joan Mir or Jorge Martin?

In our humble opinion, Joan Mir (+900) still seems to be riding the wave from his 2020 MotoGP Riders Championship. And while there should be no asterisks when it comes to titles, it must be noted that victory came during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the schedule was butchered and truncated and MotoGP ended up running six fewer races than normal.

This doesn't mean that Mir is fool's gold. Last year, when he didn't win, he still showed improvement on his steering through traffic and the speed at which he was able to take outside turns. But he can take too long to straighten out and steady his bike on straightaways, and his threshold for unforced mistakes, outside of traffic, is fairly high.

Jorge Martin (+1400) is the better bet for our money. He may not be as explosive overall, but he's someone who will grit and grind his way up the leaderboard as races go on.

Pick to Win the 2022 MotoGP Riders World Championship

Our confidence level in seeing Marc Marquez pick up his seventh MotoGP title is uncomfortably high. We don't care that his past two seasons were marred and ultimately ruined by injury.

If he's healthy enough to ride, he's a virtual lock to win.

That can be tough for some bettors to wrap their heads around. But if we're being honest, Marquez is to MotoGP racing what Michael Jordan was to the NBA and what Tom Brady was to the NFL...combined: a one-man dynasty who is almost incapable of losing at his peak.

OSB Prediction: Marc Marquez (+150)
