Scottie Scheffler Heavy Favorite to Win the 2024 PGA Championship

Thursday marks the beginning one of the Tour's biggest events as the 2024 PGA Championship gets underway at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky. The first tee off is at 4:15 AM ET, but most of the big names don't get started until a little bit later. By no surprise to anyone, the best golfer on the planet, Scottie Scheffler, is the favorite to win at +475. Rory McIlroy isn't far behind at +800, while Brooks Koepka (+1300), Xander Schauffele (+1400), Jon Rahm (+1700) and Ludwig Aberg (+1900) are expected to be contenders as well. Aside from Koepka's success, Justin Thomas and McIlroy both have two wins apiece at the PGA Championship as well.

Scottie Scheffler (+475)

While Scheffler has never won the PGA Championship, his easily in a class of his own this year. The No. 1 ranked player in the world just won four of his last five tournaments, coming in first at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The PLAYERS Championship, second at the Houston Open, then putting on the Green Jacket before another victory at the RBC Heritage last month. This is a historic run. Scheffler has had nearly a month off after the birth of his child and is clearly the most confident player on the tour. Oh, and he also finished second at the PGA Championship last year. So, he's used to success here, too.

Rory McIlroy (+800)

After a slow start to the season, McIlroy is playing well lately. He won the Zurich Classic then ran away with first place at the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend. McIlroy has five Major wins in his career and as previously mentioned, two were at this tournament. His last victory in this event happened to come at Valhalla as well. There is no question the Northern Irishman is one to keep an eye on over the next few days.

Brooks Koepka (+1400)

Koepka hasn't missed a beat since jumping ship for LIV Golf. Well, more last year when he came second at the Masters. In this year's edition, he was 45th, but as we know, Koepka has a track record at the PGA Championship, with his latest victory coming in 23'. As for Koepka's LIV form, he just won in Singapore, his first win of the season. Perhaps he can ride the high?

Xander Schauffele (+1400)

Schauffele is in rather nice form ahead of the PGA Championship. He was eighth at Augusta and has had four other top-10 finishes in recent memory. He just finished second behind McIlroy at Wells Fargo. Schauffele is the No. 3 ranked player on the globe and came 18th in this event a year ago.

Jon Rahm (+1700)

You can never ignore Jon Rahm. The Spaniard has won two Majors in his young career, the US Open and The Masters. Rahm is also in LIV now and has been flourishing this season, finishing top-10 in all eight events. Rahm came 50th in last year's PGA Championship. He really struggled at Augusta, coming in 45th after putting on the Green Jacket last season.

Ludwig Aberg (+1900)

Aberg is young. But he's already showing why he could be very special. In his first-ever Major, the Swede finished second behind Scheffler at Augusta. This is a guy who was in college a year ago. He was a bunch of top-10 finishes and came 10th at the RBC Heritage most recently. Aberg has nothing to lose, he's just getting warmed up. That's a scary sight.

Bryson DeChambeau (+2800)

He may not be well-liked, but DeChambeau is still a solid player. He has four top-10 finishes in the LIV Tour while finishing sixth at The Masters. Definitely respectable. DeChambeau has one major win in his career and that was at the US Open in 2020.

PGA Championship Picks

It's hard to ignore Scheffler when he's playing at such a high level. That's why I'll ride him to grab another victory this weekend down in Kentucky. The odds offer value.
