The legendary St Andrews is the venue, so with the world’s top golfers descending on Scotland this week, it’s time to bring you our 2022 British Open Championship betting picks.
With the PGA Championship now taking place in May, the Open Championship is the last major on the calendar, meaning after this weekend, we have to wait until the 2023 US Masters for the next golfing major.
Despite the recent uproar and disputes caused by the LIV events, all the main players are in Scotland this week. Meaning the likes of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, etc will have to come face-to-face with one of the organization's biggest critics, Rory McIlroy.
And it’s Rory McIlroy who is leading the way with the best golf betting sites for this week’s event.
Who is the favorite to win the 2022 British Open?
The current favorite to win the 2022 British Open Golf Championship is Rory McIlroy.
With Britain currently basking in a heatwave, the course at St Andrew's will be far easier to play for the guys used to the benign conditions generally found on the US PGA Tour. The best exponent of those conditions currently is Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy leads the field with BetOnline, they make 2014 champion their +800 favorite, that’s a good bit ahead of big-hitting Jon Rahm at +1400, who is second in the latest golf betting odds. Scottish Open champion, Xander Schauffele, and world number one, Scottie Scheffler are next, both at +1600.
McIlroy’s only win at this event was at Royal Liverpool in 2014, and back then the conditions were similar to what is expected this week.
With McIlroy being in such good form this season, his name was always going to be in with the front runners. Full online golf betting odds can be found below.

2022 Open Championship; All You Need To Know
- What; 2022 British Open Golf Championship
- Where; St Andrews, Scotland
- When; Thursday, July 14th - Sunday, July 17th
This is the 150th edition of the British Open Golf Championship. Also known simply as the Open Championship, this event is the oldest of the four majors and the only one held outside of the United States.
The winner will receive the Golf Champion Trophy on Sunday. That's the official name for the cup, but it's more commonly known as the Claret Jug.
This year's event is at St Andrew's. The renowned and world-famous course last hosted the Open Championship in 2015 and was won by Zach Johnson of the USA with a winning score of -15.
The course is a traditional links, with a yardage of 7,297. The Par 72 course is expected to be easier to play this year with the lack of wind and rain coming in from the sea that often accompanies a British Open.
The tea times haven't yet been released, but TV coverage starts at 6.30 am in the UK. This means a ridiculously early start time of shortly after 1.30 am ET. But the play goes on for well over 12 hours for the first and second rounds, so that gives plenty of opportunities to catch some of the action.
The defending champion is Collin Morikawa. Playing in his debut Open, Morikawa won with a 15 under par score at Royal St George's.
Is Tiger Woods at the 2022 British Open Championship?
Yes, three times Open Champion, Tiger Woods is taking part in this year's competition.
Woods missed the recent US Open after turning out at both the Masters and US PGA Championship. In the latest 2022 British Open golf odds, the 15 times major champion is +4000 to lift the Claret Jug.

2022 British Open Championship Betting Picks
With favorable conditions this year I'm looking at the big guns for my golf betting picks.
Jordan Spieth is my first pick at +1800. The 2017 champion (the last of his major wins) generally turns up for the big events and his T10 finish at the Scottish Open is a good warm-up.
Next is Tony Finau. Finau has been in decent form over the past few weeks. His second place behind Rory McIlroy in the Canadian Open came on the back of a fourth-place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
At odds of +5000, I think Finau is worth a small wager, and I also like the +1200 on him finishing in the top 5.

Shane Lowry +200 for a top 10 finish is another of my betting picks. The Irishman won this event back in 2019 and has a T3 to his name at this season’s Masters.
Lowry has been a constant on leaderboards this season and I feel he is set for another top 10 this weekend.
Finally, Collin Morikawa to win back-to-back titles. The 2021 champion hasn't been in the greatest of form this season, but why not?
Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington have both won back-to-back Open Championships in the past 20 years, so it can be done.
Morikawa has the class and pedigree to defend his title and at +3000 is worth a small wager.
