Top 2021 US Masters Picks

Please note this space is not reserved for our official US Masters 2021 prediction. That will come soon enough. We also will be avoiding the US Masters props betting market, since it isn't currently available because there are still other major tournaments being played.

Instead, this is a collection of the golfers we believe are most likely to win the 2021 US Masters, or who are long shots laying intriguing enough odds to justify an investment in their chances.

Dustin Johnson (+800)

Investing in repeat champions is always iffy. The last golfer to win the Masters back-to-back was Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. This is something that, historically, only tends to happen once every couple of decades.

Still, it isn't often that you're able to pick up the world's No. 1 ranked golfer to 8-to-1 odds. And he's playing some top-notch golf at the moment. He's hitting the green on regulation strokes more than 70 percent of the time, and he's averaging nearly 4.3 birdies per 18 holes.

Justin Thomas (+1100)

How do we not mention Justin Thomas? He's the second-ranked golfer in the world and in the FedEx Cup, and he just won the 2021 The Players Championship.

Augusta is also a fairly good course for precise drivers with expert short games. Thomas absolutely qualifies. He's putting down more than five birdies per 18 holes at the moment.

Rory McIlroy (+1400)

Rory McIlroy isn't technically playing the best golf of his career at the moment, but he's always a threat to show out at Augusta.

Last year, he finished tied for fifth place at the end of four rounds. He likewise has three top-seven finishes overall at Augusta over his past four Master appearances. Though he may have finished No. 37 in the world rankings after the 2020-21 season, we're of the brim belief that this campaign—which essentially begins with the Masters itself—will hold much better finishes for him.

Patrick Cantlay (+2200)

Patrick Cantlay is a sleeping giant priced as an underdog.

Over his past seven tournaments, he has one first place, one second place, and one third-place finish. He is also ideally built for the Augusta National Course. Reaching the green is critical. And he's nearly 70 percent of his fairways from the tee, which in turn set him up for a nice position on the green.

Most underdog odds aren't worth your first-pick money. Cantlay is one of the exceptions.

Cameron Smith (+4000)

Are we perhaps reading too much into Cameron Smith's second-place finish in the 2020 Masters Tournament? Maybe.

But it's not like the 27-year-old came out of nowhere. He has two career PGA Tour wins and finished with three top-four placements amid a shortened schedule last year.

Granted, Smith's ability to reach the fairway from the tee—mission-critical at Augusta—can be touch-and-go. He's at under 58 percent in that department. But he does a good job making up his strokes and is currently averaging 4.6 birdies per 18 holes. As far as long shots go, he's a viable investment.

2021 US Masters Prediction

It is always tempting to go with one of the foremost favorites, be it Johnson, Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Jordan Spieth or someone else. It is also somewhat easy to funnel money into heavy underdogs; your expectations are more in check.

Stepping out on a limb for a non-favorite in the middle of the pack is always a little difficult. And yet, we have no bones about picking Patrick Cantlay.

Given the way he's been hitting the fairways over the past year or so, he's a perfect option to navigate Augusta. Others, of course, have a chance. But don't be surprised if he's the last one standing.

OSB Prediction: Patrick Cantlay (+2200)
