- What? 2025 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
- Where? Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia
- When? Sunday, April 20, 2025, 1:00 p.m. ET
The 2025 Formula 1 campaign rolls on this weekend with a stop in Saudi Arabia for the next chapter of the season. McLaren has set the early pace in the Constructors’ standings, racking up victories in three of the opening four races to build a commanding lead. Meanwhile, the internal battle between teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is heating up, with just three points separating the two in the Drivers’ standings.
Norris has hit the ground running this year, notching a top-three finish in every race so far. His least impressive result came in Bahrain, where he crossed the line in third behind Piastri and George Russell. Still, the consistency has kept him firmly in the championship hunt.
With both drivers having already claimed a victory in 2025, McLaren arrives in Jeddah looking to underline their superiority. Interestingly, the team has yet to implement any pecking order. Both Norris and Piastri remain in pursuit of their first career world title — making for a thrilling intra-team rivalry as the season progresses.

Oscar Piastri
The upcoming Grand Prix presents yet another circuit that plays to McLaren’s strengths. Oscar Piastri made a major statement in the previous race, delivering a performance that solidified his status as a legitimate title contender. If he maintains that level, there’s every chance he could take over the lead in the Drivers’ Championship this Sunday. His showing in Bahrain was particularly impressive. He nailed the opening turns with precision and quickly pulled away to build a commanding gap ahead of George Russell.
Piastri is my pick to win the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Other Contenders
Ferrari will be looking to carry over the momentum from a stronger showing in Bahrain as the team heads to Jeddah. Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are still chasing their first top-three finishes of the season. Hamilton has already claimed a win for the Scuderia this year — albeit in the Sprint Race held in China — but sustained pace over full Grand Prix distances has remained elusive for the team so far.
Mercedes, meanwhile, has been in the mix throughout the early stages of the campaign. They've collected podium finishes in two of the four races. However, there’s a lingering sense that the true performance potential of their car has yet to be fully unlocked. For those eyeing value bets, Williams might be worth a look to score points with at least one of their entries this weekend.
On the championship front, Max Verstappen is already in the win column as he aims for a fifth consecutive world title. His dominant drive in Japan showed his ability to control a race from the front,. Questions remain about whether he can match the McLaren and Red Bull pace on a layout that is expected to flatter both teams.
Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is a relatively recent addition to the Formula One calendar, having made its debut in 2021. Hosted in Jeddah, the event takes place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. It's a venue that’s set to remain part of the F1 schedule through at least 2027. Initially slotted as the second-to-last race of the 2021 season, the Grand Prix shifted to an early-season fixture starting in 2022.
It holds the distinction of being the fifth race on the calendar to be contested entirely under artificial lighting, joining the likes of Singapore, Bahrain, Sakhir, and Qatar. The Jeddah Corniche Circuit has earned a reputation as the fastest street circuit in Formula One. Cars reach an average speed of approximately 250 km/h (160 mph). In terms of length, it ranks third overall on the F1 schedule. It trails only Belgium’s Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the Las Vegas Strip Circuit in the U.S.
Set along the Red Sea coastline, the track was crafted by Carsten Tilke, son of legendary F1 circuit architect Hermann Tilke. The Grand Prix itself, along with qualifying, unfolds at night when temperatures are significantly cooler. It's a stark contrast to the daytime Formula 2 race and two of the three F1 practice sessions. These are held in hotter daytime conditions.
