McLaren goes into the last ten races with momentum

McLaren has had a strong run of performances since Lando Norris won the Miami Grand Prix in May.

Despite their breakthrough victory, Max Verstappen still won three of the following four races, even in what looked like a slightly slower car. Mercedes has also chipped in with three wins in the last four races, but it was McLaren’s domination in the Hungarian Grand Prix that stood out.

The British team secured a 1-2 finish in the Round 13 race from the Hungaroring. Oscar Piastri took the checkered flag ahead of his teammate. It was the Aussie's maiden victory. And the team's all-around performance in Hungary must have sent shivers down the spines of the rest of the paddock.

If this is what they are capable of moving forward, then Red Bull and Verstappen’s F1 domination looks to be well and truly over.

Despite this, the 2024 Drivers’ Championship is still Max Verstappen’s to lose.

He holds a 78-point lead over Lando Norris at the top of the points table. And despite the performance of the McLaren car, Norris has been rash at times, and as a result, has only managed one race win all season.

Max Verstappen is -450 to win the championship. Lando Norris is +300 to win his first-ever world championship.

If Verstappen and his team have used the break to regroup and plan a way forward, then the triple-world champion should already hold enough of a lead to secure a fourth successive F1 Drivers’ Championship.

Who is the favorite to win the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix?

The Dutch Grand Prix is the first of the remaining ten F1 races this season.

Max Verstappen goes into the race weekend as the favorite to win the Dutch Grand Prix at +175. But his close rival Lando Norris is just +185.

The best F1 betting sites clearly can’t decide who the most likely winner is. Furthermore, is Verstappen’s favoritism simply down to this being his home race?

Outside of the leading two candidates, Oscar Piastri is the third-favorite at +500, Lewis Hamilton is at +850, and his Mercedes teammate George Russell is at +1000.

What is the Zandvoort circuit like?

The circuit at Spa wasn’t expected to favor McLaren and so it proved with Mercedes originally recording a 1-2 finish.

George Russell was subsequently disqualified, meaning Lewis Hamilton was promoted to winner, with Oscar Piastri second, and Charles Leclerc third.

The time gaps at Spa weren’t huge. Hamilton was just under a second behind Russell, with Piastri just over half a second behind Hamilton. And as we said, the Spa circuit didn't really suit McLaren.

Zandvoort looks like a more similar circuit to what the drivers encountered at the Hungaroring. Yes, the circuit where McLaren recorded a 1-2 finish and was well over 10 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who finished third that weekend.

The length of the Zandvoort circuit is 4.259 km long. Spa was over 7 km long. Zandvoort has 14 turns, the same number as the Hungaroring. The Hungaroring is 4.381 km long, a similar distance to Zandvoort.

Our 2024 Dutch Grand Prix betting picks

We will soon find out if Max Verstappen and Red Bull have managed to come up with a plan to secure the Drivers’ Championship.

Alternatively, have McLaren found a way to turn their domination into race wins?

The bookmakers say it will be a close call between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris this weekend.

They also know that Oscar Piastri is going to be a threat, and after three wins in four races, Mercedes can’t be written off.

Any McLaren to win the race is +100. While any Mercedes to win is +400.

The recent form suggests a win for Mercedes is the best value bet. But the recent form hasn't taken the crash between Norris and Verstappen in Austria into consideration. A crash that led to a win for Russell.

Furthermore, recent form at a similar circuit says that a McLaren win is more likely. They dominated the race in Hungary at the Hungaroring, and they look like the team most likely to prosper at Zandvoort.

Our 2024 Dutch Grand Prix betting pick is for any McLaren to win the race at +100.
