Betting to win the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen is the favorite to win the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix this Sunday. The Dutchman has won the previous two races (in Canada and Spain) and has established a 69-point lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship. Can he extend it further at the Red Bull Ring? We tell you the answer in our latest Formula 1 betting picks.

  • What: Austrian Grand Prix 2024 - Round 11
  • Where: Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria
  • When: Sunday, June 30th, 2024
  • Time: 9 a.m ET
  • Laps: 71
  • Track Length: 4.318 km
  • Race Distance: 306.452 km

Max Verstappen clinched his second successive Grand Prix win when he took the checkered flag ahead of Lando Norris in Spain. The win was his seventh of the season and saw the triple-world champion move onto 219 points in the Drivers’ Championship.

In second place on Sunday was Lando Norris. His second successive second place sees the British driver move up to second in the championship. Norris has 150 points, two more than third-placed Charles Leclerc.

After a disastrous weekend in Canada in Round 9, Ferrari hoped to be more competitive in Spain. But their car upgrades didn’t have the desired effect, with Leclerc finishing fifth and Sainz sixth.

Despite Ferrari's struggles, the narrative emerging from Spain is that Lando Norris is now posing a real threat to Verstappen and Red Bull’s dominance is over.

Norris could easily have won the races in Canada and Spain. And Red Bull knows this.

Who is the favorite to win the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix?

Ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was -225, and Lando Norris was +500. After Norris pushed Verstappen close for the second successive race, the bookmakers have been forced to close the gap in the betting between the top two drivers on the circuit.

In the latest Formula 1 betting online, Max Verstappen is -188 to win the Austrian Grand Prix. Lando Norris is +300.

Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc is +1200. Although Leclerc’s Ferrari received a series of upgrades ahead of Barcelona, the result suggests that the upgrades had little impact. But Leclerc claimed that they worked, but the car lacked pace elsewhere.

Behind the leading three drivers in the betting is the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at +2000. The Mercedes car has seen a significant improvement over the last two races. And in a further boost to the team, Lewis Hamilton recorded his first podium of the season with his third place in Spain.

Betting to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship

There is no change at the top of the betting to win the Drivers’ Championship. Max Verstappen is still the favorite at -2000.

Behind the championship leader, Lando Norris is +1000, and Charles Leclerc is +2000. Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri are +2500.

Verstappen is very short at -2000. From the evidence we have seen in recent weeks, despite him winning in Canada and Spain, both races could have seen Norris on the top of the podium.

Verstappen may still look likely to win the title. But it is far from a foregone conclusion this season.

There is no doubt that Norris is well able to reel off a couple of wins in succession. And that would put the cat among the pigeons.

Our 2024 Austrian GP Sprint betting picks

The third Sprint race of the 2024 F1 season is taking place in Austria this weekend. The betting to win the Sprint follows a similar pattern to Sunday’s Grand Prix, with Verstappen the betting favorite at -160.

For our picks, we are going with Ferrari. Charles Leclerc is on record saying that the upgrades worked and improved the car. However, he also stated that there was something amiss elsewhere in Spain.

The thought process here is Ferrari is a week and a race wiser than last week. If they have ironed out whatever the issues were in Spain, they are dangerous, making Leclerc and Sainz good value bets to win the shorter Sprint race.

Our 2024 Austrian Grand Prix betting picks

Onto our race picks, and this is a very tricky call.

Lando Norris has the beating of Red Bull and Max Verstappen. But the problem is that Verstappen still keeps winning.

We’ve seen the odds on a Norris win shortened from +500 in Spain to +300 in Austria. The bookmakers have recognized that a win is just around the corner. But somehow, Verstappen keeps finding a way to win.

Nevertheless, there is too much uncertainty to back Verstappen at -188. As well as the threat from Norris, there is also the possibility that the Ferrari upgrades have an effect this weekend.

So instead we are going with The Field to beat Verstappen at +150.
