The fact that George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were in range to pick up the pieces at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone shows how much Mercedes has closed the gap on Red Bull and McLaren in recent weeks.

Okay, circumstances definitely played a part in the cases of both wins for the Silver Arrows. But their recent upgrades have now started to have an impact and are giving both Red Bull and McLaren plenty to think about.
