How Does the League of Legends Hitpoint Masters Tournament Work?
We went over the League of Legends Hitpoint Masters format when we tackled opening-day matchups, but here’s a brief reminder.
League of Legends Hitpoint Masters Group Stage
This is the stage of the tournament we’re currently watching. Here’s how it works:
- Eight teams are participating. This year’s field includes Team Brute, Parakeet Gaming, Dynamo Eclot, GLORE, Team UNiTY, eSuba, Entropiq and OG Sigma Esports.
- The group stage plays out as a double round robin.
- Each team plays 14 matches. Entering June 21, every squad has played half of their total head-to-heads.
- Whereas many other tournaments play best-of-five or best-of-three sets, all matches in the League of Legends Hitpoint Masters group stage are best-of-one.
League of Legends Hitpoint Masters Playoffs Stage
After the group stage, we enter the playoffs. They are structured as follows:
- The top four teams from the group stage make it into the playoffs
- First and second place are “seeded into Winners’ Finals”
- Third and fourth place are “seeded into Losers’ Round 1”
- The LoL Hitpoint Masters playoffs are double elimination.
- All matches in the playoffs stage are best of five.
Right now, as we prepare for the eighth round of matchups, the top four teams are Entropiq (7-0), BRUTe (5-2), Team UNiTY (5-2) and Dynamo Eclot (4-3). At least two of the other eight squads remain in the hunt for a top-four spot. And with half the group stage left to play, anything can technically happen.
On to our latest batch of predictions for the League of Legends Hitpoint Masters!
Can Parakeet Gaming Increase League of Legends Playoff Odds Against eSuba?
At 3-4, Parakeet Gaming (-204) is currently on the outside looking in at the League of Legends Hitpoint Masters playoff picture. Fortunately for them, they get to square up against eSuba (+149) for the first time in this tournament. The latter squad is currently tied for last place with OGC Sigma Esports.
Still, Parakeet Gaming has turned in some shaky moments throughout their first batch of head-to-heads. They looked especially hard-pressed in losses to Dynamo Eclot and Team UNiTY.
Nevertheless, it’s tough to pick against them here. eSuba is getting off to some pretty slow starts and struggling to climb out of holes. Frankly, their tournament is likely already over.
OSB Prediction:
Is Entropiq Officially Untouchable at the Hitpoint Masters Summer 2024 Tournament?
Another matchup, another vote of heavy-favorite confidence for Entropiq (-588). They are laying basically 1-to-6 odds as they get set to take on Team Brute (+359). That’s extremely impressive when you consider Brute is currently No. 2 overall in the tournament, trailing only Entropiq themselves.
To be sure, this says more about Entropiq than it does Team Brute. The former has won 83 percent of all their matchups over the past year. And they have a lifetime 75 percent win rate.
What’s more, only one of Entropiq’s players is posting a kill-to-death ratio in the negatives (denyk). That type of lineup balance and depth is tough for anyone to overcome. Granted, we don’t love how heavily they are favored. Team Brute certainly has the offense on certain maps to pull off an upset. But far be it from us to predict Entropiq’s first lost of the tournament.
OSB Prediction: Entropiq (-588)
GLORE Enters Must-Win Territory Against OGC Sigma Esports
GLORE (-196) has to be kicking themselves at the moment. Not only are they an unspectacular 2-5 in the tournament, but they are the only team that has fallen to eSuba so far. That outcome could loom large as the playoff picture continues to take shape.
To GLORE’s credit, they did put up a reasonable fight against Team UNiTY in their latest loss. Also, OGC Sigma Esports (+142) has not executed all that well during the tourney—their lone victory over eSuba notwithstanding.
This matchup isn’t a sure thing. GLORE needs to have better map awareness, particularly when it comes to avoiding aces. But we also haven’t seen anything from OGC Sigma Esports during their League of Legends performances that suggests they can put together complete rounds of gameplay.
OSB Prediction: GLORE (-196)
Team UNiTY Looking to Prove They’re the Real Deal in Matchup with Dynamo Eclot
On the one hand, Team UNiTY (-137) is 5-2 and has an inside track on one of the coveted playoff spots. On the other hand, they have bowed out against their two superiors, Team Brute and Entropiq, without too many convincing moments.
Dynamo Eclot (+100), meanwhile, has scooped up victories against GLORE and Parakeet Gaming. On top of that, they have done a better job of ending competitions in under 30 minutes than their counterpart in this matchup.
Call it something of a gut feeling. Even though Dynamo Eclot barely lasted 25 minutes against Entropiq, we think they have the strategy and defensive components to pull of the (slight) upset.
OSB Prediction: Dynamo Eclot (+100)
