Our favorite dark horse bet is the Irishman. Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci received raved reviews for their roles in the film, and the general feedback on the movie was good even if it ran a little wrong.

As for a more realistic winner, we understand if you gravitate towards 1917. So many are calling that one of the best movies of the decade. But Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood is receiving similar credit, and the creative license it took with the ending should guarantee it gets more consideration than the sportsbook are intimating.

Still, we're not about to go against Sam Mendes. His movie, 1917, has a much better chance of being upset for Best Picture than he does for Best Director.

This is another category where it's tough to go against the consensus. Joaquin Phoenix is being iconized for his method of attacking in Joker. He needed to lose a ton of weight and accurately portray the personality of an all-time villain while simultaneously humanizing his character.

Good luck if you're picking against him. Adam Driver is the best alternative.

While Renee Zelweger is the heavy favorite here, we're kind of into betting on Scarlett Johansson.

Marriage Story became a meme online, but it was, for the most part, critically acclaimed. It feels like it's going to be recognized in some way. With Best Picture out of the question and Joaquin Phoenix seemingly a shoo-in for Best Actor, this is the category in which it makes sense to roll the dice.
