The 97th Academy Awards is at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 2nd. Conan O’Brien will be the host. He takes over the duty from Jimmy Kimmel who was the voice of the awards for the previous two editions.
Arguably one of the best and most prestigious Oscar awards is for Best Picture.
Previous winners include The Godfather, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Rain Man, and Dances with Wolves. The most recent winner was Oppenheimer, produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven, and Christopher Nolan.

97th Academy Awards - Best Picture winner betting
There is a stellar list of previous winners of this award, and there is another top-quality list of nominees to win again this year.
Leading the way is The Brutalist, directed and produced by Brady Corbet. The Brutalist opened up as the odds-on-betting favorite at around -110 to 120. BetUS now has it as their -135 favorite.
The closest rivals to Brady Corbet’s blockbuster are Emilia Pérez at +340 and Anora at +350. Conclave at +500 is the only other film expected to be in with a chance of winning, with everything else priced up at +1000 and higher.

The betting favorite: The Brutalist -135
As is often the case, a betting favorite to win the Best Picture is also heavily represented in many other categories. This year is no different, with The Brutalist short-listed for no less than ten Oscars.
Directed and produced by Brady Corbet, The Brutalist is an epic period drama about a Holocaust survivor who emigrated to the United States.
Adrien Brody plays the lead role. His character, Laszlo Toth, falls upon hard times as he attempts to rebuild his life and reunite with his family in the USA.
The film was released in the USA on December 20th, 2024. Adrien Brody is also the -175 betting favorite to win the Best Actor award for his lead role in the film.
Emilia Pérez +340
Oscar nominees often create a lot of publicity, but rarely does a film garner as much attention as Emilia Pérez has.
The film is a Netflix musical about a Mexican drug lord who changes gender. The film premiered on May 18th, 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Its timing in the current political climate couldn’t have been better, and it has led to a lot of attention. Although, in Mexico, it hasn’t gone down too well.
Nevertheless, Emilia Pérez has 13 nominations - the most at this year’s Oscars. The picture has also been a constant mover in the betting, having opened at +800.
Anora at +350
Anora did open as the second favorite behind The Brutalist. But is now down as the third favorite, despite its odds not really changing since the market went live.
Anora is an American comedy-drama film produced and directed by Sean Baker, it has been nominated for six Oscars.
The film was released in October and was the highest-grossing limited-release movie of 2024. At the last count, the film had grossed just under $34 million worldwide.
Conclave at +500
Conclave is a political thriller film directed by Edward Berger and written by Peter Straughan. It was released in the United States on October 25th and is based on the 2016 novel by Robert Harris.
Ralph Fiennes plays the lead role, and is also nominated to win the Best Actor award for his role at Cardinal Lawrence. He is the +700 third favorite. In total, Conclave has eight Oscar nominations.
Best bets
The truth is that The Brutalist looks set to clean up at the 2025 Academy Awards. The film has ten nominations and is a favorite in six categories.
The dark horse in this market is Emilia Pérez.
The timing of the awards couldn’t be better for the film, which has continued to gain support in the betting markets. It could be worth having an outside wager on the musical if you feel the odds on The Brutalist are too short.
